SuperNick® ZX Family Rounds Out
Ashaway Squash String Line
SuperNick ZX strings combine nylon multifilament
cores with special wear layers of Zyex® filaments
to provide precise touch, maintain tension, and maximize spin
Ashaway's family of SuperNick® ZX squash strings offers a new set of playing characteristics that
rounds out the company's diverse line of squash string capabilities. Combining nylon multifilament
cores with special wear layers of Zyex® filaments, SuperNick ZX strings provide precise touch,
maintain string tension, and maximize spin potential. The SuperNick ZX family joins Ashaway Su-
perNick® XL, UltraNick®, PowerNick® and Liberty® squash strings to comprise the sport's broad-
est and most popular line.
"The addition of the SuperNick ZX family to our squash string line allows players to select from a
full range of playing characteristics," said Ashaway's Steve Crandall. "Some players like the feel
of the traditional nylon core in our SuperNick XL series, while others like the enhanced power and
control they get from the Zyex® core in our PowerNick and UltraNick strings. SuperNick ZX com-
bines these two materials, providing a more precise touch, while maintaining string tension and
maximizing spin potential."
Long the gold standard for squash strings, nylon multifilaments are very responsive, generating
good playability. Inexpensive compared to other synthetics, they are also insensitive to moisture
and provide good abrasion resistance. Zyex strings have very low dynamic stiffness, which allows
them to stretch and recover more completely than other synthetic materials. This generates power
with low impact shock (soft power). Zyex can also be made to have exceptionally low creep under
continuous tension, allowing racquet strings to maintain tension and playability longer.
SuperNick ZX family strings combine these characteristics, employing a Zyex fiber wear layer over
a multifilament nylon core. This combination adds power, improves tension holding, and increases
string durability. A textured surface on the wear layer also increases grip and maximizes ball con-
trol and spin potential.
Two SuperNick ZX strings are currently available:
SuperNick ZX and SuperNIck ZX Micro. SuperNick ZX
is a high visibility orange for easy identification on the
court. It is available in 9-meter (30 foot) sets, as well
as 110-meter (360 foot) reels, and should be strung at
tensions up to 40 lbs. (18 kgs.). SuperNick ZX Micro is
solid black in color and is available in 9-meter (30 foot)
sets, as well as 110-meter (360 foot) reels. Recom-
mended stringing tension is up to 35 lbs. (16 kgs.).
