Shelforce crowned Birmingham business of the year

Birmingham window and door manufacturer Shelforce has been crowned the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce ( GBCC ) Business of the Year .
It was the second award the company , which specialises in providing high-quality PVCu and aluminium products to local authority building projects such as Birmingham City Council , claimed at the online awards ceremony , taking home the Excellence for People Development award too .
At the heart of its manufacturing services is a genuine commitment to inclusivity and supporting disabled people in their entry to employment , with 75 per cent of their workforce having a disability .
Steve Allen , president of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce , said : “ Shelforce have shown excellence in many of this year ’ s categories , not only in their service to manufacturing and sustainability but also through their investment in
staff development and the wider issue of diversity and inclusion .
“ Shelforce are an outstanding example of what it means to do good business and we are glad to recognise them as such after a year of such adversity .”
It has been a wonderful 12 months for Shelforce ; earlier this year the company were the main feature on ITV ’ s Made In Britain , having been chosen by producers to demonstrate how sustainable windows are produced and tell the company ’ s unique story .
And last summer Shelforce launched its fully compliant Fireshel 30-minure fire , smoke , and security resistant door , offering a comprehensive fire door package to local authorities .

ANTICIPATION BUILDS FOR GLAZING SUMMIT 2021

As restrictions ease and the UK returns to live events , anticipation is building for the Glazing Summit – the conference that tackles the key issues facing the glass and glazing industry .
Arkay Windows Limited is the latest industry name to come on board for this year ’ s Glazing Summit .
The specialist large-scale fabricator and door manufacturer , with more than 45 years ’ experience , has taken premium sponsorship at the event , which takes place on Thursday , October 21 at Edgbaston Stadium and Conference Centre .
The Watford-based company also sponsored the 2019 event , the last one staged due to the coronavirus pandemic , and Managing Director Raju Radia
said : “ The 2019 Glazing Summit was a watershed moment for the industry , and we were looking forward to the 2020 version . “ Alas , forces beyond everyone ’ s control meant that it was unable to happen , but as soon as organisers announced it was back , and restrictions
were lifted , it was an easy decision to make .
“ There ’ s an awful lot to discuss after a highly challenging year , and we ’ re looking forward to partnering with the Glazing Summit again and supporting the industry .”

Andrew Scott , founder of the Glazing Summit comments : “ Our industry is facing some of its toughest challenges ever , from supply-chain issues and labour shortages to spiralling costs and looming legislation . People are exhausted with it . Industry leaders need to come together and find solutions .”
The Glazing Summit takes place on 21st October 2021 at Edgbaston Stadium and Conference Centre , Birmingham . It brings together forward-thinking fabricators , installers and component suppliers to discuss the biggest issues and share ideas and solutions .
Delegate safety will be a top priority , and the organisers have taken additional precautions despite restrictions being lifted .
Andrew added : “ The event will be carefully managed with restricted numbers , dedicated seating and a much bigger conference space , but we also know people desperately want to get together and discuss the future of our industry . Virtual events just can ’ t deliver the same experience , and everyone is burned out with Zoom fatigue .”
