SECONDARY GLAZING,
GOING THE DURATION
Since 1985, Essex based Duration Windows has
manufactured a high performance yet cost effective
and easy to fit, secondary glazing system.
What is Secondary
Glazing?
Secondary glazing is a simple
way to reduce noise and draughts
and cut heating bills. It is perfect
for listed buildings and rented
accommodation where altering
or replacing the prime window is
not possible. Secondary glazing
involves adding an extra slim-line
window in addition to your existing
windows. Available in many
styles and 200+ RAL colours to
match existing windows, it will
blend in with your property,
curtains and blinds remaining
unaffected most of the time.
Why Aluminium?
Aluminium is durable, will not
rot, allowing for naturally strong
and very discreet slim frames. We
offer a range of made to measure
systems, from simple lift out and
fixed units through to horizontal
and vertical sliders, aluminium
can even be curved to form
arched units.
Delivery
Our standard lead time is 2-3
weeks, but if your requirement is
urgent we also offer a Fast Track
service. Delivery is by our own
GPS tracked vans and we cover
most of the UK. Sliding panels
come made up and fully glazed
and the majority of the time they
can be delivered fully assembled
within the frame ready for installation.
Your outerframe may be
supplied in kit form if site access
is a problem or the units are particularly
large.
Easy Installation
Due to the uncomplicated
nature of Duration Secondary
Glazing it is remarkably straightforward
to assemble and install.
Fixed from the inside, secondary
can be fitted throughout the year
providing income whatever the
weather. By simply fixing pre
drilled units to the existing windows
or into the window reveal,
you can be sure of a mess free
easy installation.
Cover trims are included and
come in a range of sizes and
finishes including white plastic,
tulip, and solid oak. To save time
some trims are available preprimed.
They are provided to
hide fixing screws and ensure a
professional clean finish.
Benefits of Secondary
Glazing
Adding well fitted secondary
glazing with standard 4mm glass
will give significant benefits in
energy saving and reducing heating
bills. Duration offer a range
of glazing options including
Float, Toughened & Laminated.
For the best sound reduction, we
offer 6.8mm Acoustic or 6.4mm
Laminated.
Slim lines and high specification
make our Secondary Glazing
the goto solution for listed buildings.
Considered to be a reversible
change, secondary glazing
is recommended by English
Heritage and the Listed Property
Owners Club.
Having a 100mm - 200mm
air gap between the secondary
glazing and the existing windows
(glass to glass) will provide an
optimum gap for sound and
heat performance. The air gap
provides an additional barrier,
preventing heat and sound from
passing through. We have a
deeper SF3 and SF4 subframe’s
specifically for the purpose of ‘reveal’
fixing the secondary glazing
to give this gap. If only a smaller
gap can be used then secondary
glazing is still very effective.
If you’re uncertain about the
look and feel of secondary,
Duration provide free survey
sample kits. Each kit contains off
cuts from our secondary systems,
including extensions, wooden
frames and trims and are available
through our Sales team.
Choosing Glass
Thickness
When installing secondary
glazing for sound proofing we
recommend that you use a different
thickness of glass in your secondary
glazing than that of the
glass in your existing windows.
Different thicknesses of glass
will help to block different wave
lengths of sound. For maximum
sound reduction we offer acoustic
glass which is 6.8mm thick. Our
6.4mm ‘laminated’ glass offers a
significant noise benefit over other
glass options, but at a reduced
cost compared to acoustic glass.
Double glazed units are available
on our Heavy Duty Horizontal
and Vertical Sliders and these
also benefit from larger maximum
panel sizes.
