ERA lanches new patio door lock solution
ARE YOUR FIRE
RATED WINDOWS
BSEN CERTIFIED?
Demonstrating its in- Following the Grenfell
novative approach to prod-
uct design, ERA, the security
expert has introduced a new
patio door hook locking
solution whose ‘Integrated
Dog Bolt’ feature, slimline
gearbox and unique locking
clusters solve several chal-
lenges commonly faced by
fabricators and installers.
It is generally accepted
that unsightly plunge bolts
ruin the clean lines of patio
doors, and they do not
generally meet the build-
ing access requirements
of Approved Document M.
In addition, fitting them
involves routing, which can
be difficult and time-con-
suming, aligning them with Tower tragedy last year,
fire safety is very much at
the forefront of the minds
of all organisations in-
volved in the construction
industry, with an increas-
ing spotlight on fire-rated
products.
With smoke inhalation
being the most common
cause of death from fire-re-
lated disasters, smoke ven-
tilation systems are vital to
remove smoke and heat to
help save lives and avoid
tragedies like this again.
Designed for communal
areas such as stairwells,
lobbies or exit corridors,
smoke ventilation systems
use actuators to automat-
associated keeps can be
problematic, and re-aligning
them is sometimes required
on site after installation.
The integrated dog bolt in
ERA’s new patio door lock
solution does away with all
of these problems and is
considerably more cost-ef-
fective when the overall
product cost, including
manufacturing labor and ad-
justments on site, are taken
into account.
A twelve point lock ver-
sion of the new patio door
solution featuring the new
dog bolt interlock means
it can be used as part of a
complete door to achieve
compliance with PAS24
2016.

ically open windows and
rooflights in the event of a
fire, creating a safe exit out
of high-rise residential or
commercial buildings.
A typical system should
consist of vents certified
to BS EN 12101-2 which
are automatically triggered
by a 24v control system
(certified to BS EN 12101-
10). The system is activat-
ed when a call-point or
smoke sensor is triggered,
resulting in vents opening
to clear smoke from that
area of the building.
In many cases, howev-
er, the windows used for
smoke ventilation are not
certified or tested to the
same high standard as the
system.
