WINDOWS FIT
FOR A WORLD
HERITAGE SITE
Bath is a UNESCO
World Heritage Site – so it
was a real triumph when
local planning authorities
decided that Modus PVCu
windows from Eurocell
were an appropriate alter-
native to timber on a prime,
exposed location near the
city.
Heritage colours and
kerbside appeal were
among the deciding factors
at the development con-
cerned, consisting of 136
upmarket homes selling at
up to £1 million each. The
Ensleigh estate is being
developed by Bloor Homes
along with another major
housebuilder on a former
MoD site dating from WW2
that overlooks the Georgian
city and is near to its race
and golf course.
“The planners originally
wanted timber windows
but that wouldn’t work for
our designs because we
wanted to install matching
fascias and soffits that fitted
beneath considerable eaves.
This is on an exposed site
at the top of a steep hill so
they wouldn’t look great for
very long,” explains Paul
Baker, regional managing
director for Bloor Homes
South West.
“Timber windows, fascias
and soffits would require
expensive maintenance
Quick and easy sealing
Improved sealing of windows
is provided by ISO-BLOCO
ONE foam tape available from
supplier ISO-CHEMIE.
The multi-purpose foam
tape enables installers to quick-
ly and easily seal windows
from inside the building during
construction, avoiding the need
to use time-consuming and
costly external access systems
like scaffolding and ladders.
This can provide cost savings
of up to 70% when compared
to traditional three component
systems. Hiring access systems,
with the associated health and
safety issues, can add signif-
icantly to the overall cost of
a new build or renovation
project.
Moreover, because the foam
sealant can be used in the wet
and rain the installation of
windows can be undertaken
regardless of external weather
conditions, avoiding time con-
suming and costly delays. This
can add-up to potential savings
of hundreds of pounds per day,

because of the scaffolding
required to paint them.
These PVCu alternatives not
only have kerb-appeal but
are maintenance-free”.

PAS1188 certificate is twice as nice
for Watergate Flood Solutions Ltd
Halo customer Watergate Flood Solu-
tions Ltd has been certified with the recent-
ly-revised PAS1188 BSI Kitemark for Flood Pro-
tection Products for its composite flood door.
Watergate – based in Hebburn, Tyne & Wear
– spent 18 months honing its design and sub-
jecting products to rigorous testing to achieve
the accreditation, with support from VEKA
Group. The anti-flood specialist – which fab-
ricates up to 50 doors every week – made the
switch to Halo profile in 2015, and has been
using its outer frames exclusively ever since.
The most recent PAS1188 certificate will be the
company’s second, having already received one
for its PVC-U door models.
Rachael Radcliffe, Business Development
Manager for Watergate at VEKA Group said:
“We’ve been working closely with Watergate
over the past year-and-a-half in trying to
achieve the PAS1188 so we are very proud to
have been a part of them obtaining this wor-
thy certification. Ensuring the PVC-U profile
system that their new products would be used
with is of the best possible quality has been
paramount throughout, which is why Halo’s
reputation for excellence within the industry –
for flood doors especially – seemed to be the
perfect fit.”
