VIPS GATHER TO MARK DECADE OF MANUFACTURING

Warm edge experts Edgetech welcomed VIPs from throughout the industry to a celebration marking a decade of UK manufacturing. The company’ s Coventry factory became the first warm edge manufacturing facility in the country back in 2007. Exactly ten years on, dignitaries including Bill Griffiths and George Wilson from
parent company Quanex and John Blundell, deputy lord payor of Coventry, marked the anniversary by officially opening a $ 1.3m extension to the same site.
Attendees heard presentations from Edgetech UK managing director Chris Alderson, president of Quanex IG Systems George Wilson, who has since been promoted to chief operating officer of the Quanex Group, Quanex chairman and chief executive officer Bill Griffiths, as well as industry expert Andrew Scott, managing director of Insight Data. Guests were also treated to a virtual tour of the new facilities.
The Quanex Chairman’ s Safety Award was presented to works manager John Stark to recognize Edgetech UK’ s impeccable safety record, while head of marketing Charlotte Davies received a £ 1,000 donation from the company towards her efforts for Paddle2Pedal.

‘ Charlotte’ s fundraising total so far is over £ 4,000

ROOFING ON THE ROAD

Roofing contractors around the country are receiving free on-site support and product demonstrations thanks to UK roofing manufacturer, Hambleside Danelaw.
The company has appointed a product support technician to assist users of its products in the best methods of installation, and to help customers choose the right product for the application from the company’ s extensive range.
Hambleside Danelaw has appointed Paul Lambert to the role of Field Technical Support. Paul has 17 years’ experience in the roofing sector and is a former customer and user of the company’ s products.
Before joining Hambleside Danelaw, Paul ran his own company, managing up to five different fitting teams. He was a fully approved Dryseal system installer,
and his company was the first to provide a full roof in Dryseal GRP to a Grade 1 listed medieval church after repeated lead thefts. He is now responsible for travelling around the country to train merchants, distributors and contractors on site in best practice. Commenting on the new appointment, Hambleside Danelaw managing director Chris Avery said:“ This is the first time we’ ll be providing support on the road and it’ ll offer contractors the chance to hear about new products, watch demonstrations and learn the latest techniques. It will also help us to deliver our ambition to improve standards and practices across the building industry as a whole.”

Far and away the ideal showpiece

When the creators of the industry’ s most radical new window and door system heard that a substantial ultra-contemporary house was being planned not far from its head office, the opportunity seemed too good to miss.
That system was Lumi, the innovation that had recently proved a show-stopper when Co Antrim based Apeer launched it at Grand Designs Live in 2015, and the finished house has surpassed all expectations, not only for the owner and architect but also for Apeer as a model showpiece for its innovation.
“ When we began creating the Lumi concept, our mind’ s eye put it in a high-value, bespoke contemporary setting,” said Apeer MD Asa McGillian.
“ Then, when we saw that the architect’ s drawings were so much like that mental picture, we could not let the opportunity pass.”
Attendees made generous charity donations also totalling £ 1,000 sterling and – reflecting the international guest list – a further £ 500 in dollars and euros which brings Charlotte’ s fundraising total so far to over £ 4,000.

The installation makes extensive use of Lumi windows, residential doors and sliding doors, placing them among a variety of exterior materials including white render, grey random stone and shiplap timber cladding.
