Green construction
contest gets under way
A competition has been launched to find new ways to cut energy consumption on building sites.
The contest is being organised
by Slough-based software
specialist Construction Industry Solutions (COINS), which
also hopes to discover young
sustainability champions.
There will be six finalists in
each of the two categories in
the COINS Construction Industry
Grand Challenge.
They will present and explain
their innovations to leaders in the
fields of construction technology,
engineering and academia. It is
hoped the ideas will eventually
impact on the lives of millions of
people worldwide.
The first challenge, entitled New
and Emerging Technologies, aims
to find a hi-tech solution to significantly reduce energy consumption
at any or all stages in the lifecycle
of built assets.
The person who comes up with
the best idea will win a place on
Singularity University’s week-long
Executive Programme in Silicon
Valley, California.
The second challenge – Leadership 35 – is for forward-thinkers
under the age of 35 to come up
with a new approach to sustainability leadership within the construction industry.
‘We encourage
free thinkers’
The prize for the winning entry
in this category is a place on the
