VENTILATION SOLUTIONS FOR HERITAGE GLAZING

Though timber replacements are a great option, PVC-u windows in heritage properties can also meet local and national regulatory requirements. PVC-u windows offer an excellent balance of traditional styling with the same character and appearance but with greater functionality, durability, practicality and affordability.
Progressive PVC-u window companies overcome any heritage sector restrictions by being innovative, making and installing products that both comply and retain the traditional window design and look.
In heritage buildings, windows and doors often need replaced because of their age and condition. In most cases in listed buildings and conservation areas, the original glazing is within timber frames and often in vertical sliding sash design. When installing PVC-u windows and doors in heritage buildings, a critical factor is ventilation. The Building Regulations, Approved Document F( means of ventilation) changed in June 2022, thus making it compulsory for companies replacing existing windows and doors, to meet new ventilation requirements. With installation of mechanical ventilation being expensive, inconvenient and time consuming, the most practical and affordable way to achieve compliance is to install trickle vents to window and door profiles or frames.
With the homeowner’ s preferences aiming for a perfect finish to maintain the traditional look, getting the right ventilation solution is now vital for any window and door installer operating in the heritage sector.
Glazpart( the leading glazing components manufacturer) has one of the best trickle ventilation solutions with its award-winning Link Vent range which comes in sizes 5000, 4000 and 2500 EQA and all designed to fully comply with Building Regulations. With smart design, simple and user-friendly for both opening and closing- the Link Vent’ s innovative and flexible closing action allows the closure plate to be positioned so that it reduces draughts by directing air away from occupants. The Link Vent design eliminates the need for end caps whilst the clip fix design( Pawl’ s) allows for a fast, easy vent installation.
In January 2025, Glazpart added the
Modular Vent to its trickle vent range. Developed for PVC-u vertical sliders, the Modular Vent is fully compliant with regulations( LABC certified), has high performance and is available in a wide range of colours and finishes- ideal for heritage windows.
The product is specifically designed for“ Through Profile” PVC-u applications using a 19mm routed slot. All ventilators are“ Clip” fixed with the advantage of rapid fitting to profiles. Each Modular Vent has 2000 EQA and has the unique feature of being able to assemble the ventilation EQA you need by clipping the modules together before fitting to the windows.
The Modular Vent is one of the shortest trickle vents in the market but is also the highest performing trickle vent for watertightness
at 1000 Pa and with a Spring Clip fitting( no screws) it also saves time when installing.
The huge choice of colours and decorative finishes makes Glazpart’ s trickle vents perfect for fenestration in heritage buildings.
For over ten years, Glazpart has consistently invested in state-of-the-art machinery and tooling to produce a vast spectrum of colours and finishes for its trickle vents. To match the woodgrains in heritage windows and doors, many fabricators and installers use Glazpart’ s Premium Finish Ranges.
Glazpart’ s colours are also extremely stable and durable with the trickle vents holding their colour through constant exposure to extreme and constant elements of weather, without noticeable fading.
Dean Bradley, Glazpart Sales Director summarises,“ The heritage sector is an important one for window and door companies. Our ventilation solutions both comply with regulations and offer a vast colour range that can blend in perfectly with the traditional window look and design.”
