CERTASS GOES DIGITAL WITH
BUILDING CERTIFICATES
Certass has introduced digital downloads for building certificates, to make getting
certificates quicker, easier and more convenient for Certass members and homeowners.

Building products
demand to rise
with launch
of new £1bn
SME housing
development fund
Barclays, in partnership
with Housing England
and the Ministry of
Housing, have announced
they will be providing
£1bn of funding to
help stimulate the
building of new homes
across England.
at Certass says: “As consumer trends have
changed, lots of homeowners have come
to expect electronic documents, rather
than having hard copies come through the
post.
“Whether it’s bank statements, utility bills
or even receipts from high-street shops,
almost everything is done via email now, so
that’s what consumers have come to expect
from their home improvement installers
too.
“That’s why we’ve made our certificates
available electronically. It’s doesn’t only
help homeowners, it makes life easier for
members too. When a Certass installer reg-
isters an installation with an email address,
an email is sent with full details on how
to download building certificates from the
Certass digital download portal. This can be
done by the installer or the homeowner.
“We’ve put a safety net in place too,
in case an email address is missed, or
mistyped. If emails bounce or the certificate
is not downloaded within 30 days, a hard
copy will still be sent to the homeowner’s
preferred address.”

UKGBC launches a Sustainable Innovation
Manual for the built environment
The UK Green Building Council
(UKGBC) has today launched its Sustainable
Innovation Manual for the construction and
property industry.
The manual contains a step-by-step guide
designed to help built environment profes-
sionals put sustainability and innovation at
the heart of planning, decision-making, and
project work. It includes practical templates
to promote new thinking and help organise
ideas. The manual is complimented by a
separate Innovation Insights report packed
full of case studies of sustainable innovation
around the theme ‘how do we make space
as agile as technology?’
These resources are products of UKGBC’s
inaugural Innovation Lab: an open process
of innovation designed and facilitated by
UKGBC and Switch On (a purpose driven
leadership and sustainable innovation con-
sultancy).
The Lab’s insight and idea generation
processes were driven by lead partners
with a wealth of built environment expe-
rience and a readiness to challenge the
status quo: Canary Wharf Group, Landsec
and M&S.
UKGBC’s focus on innovation is designed
to build the capacity of the built environ-
ment to innovate sustainably in order to
address some of the most pressing challeng-
es facing our industry.
The funding, which will come in the
form of ‘competitively-priced’ loans between
£5m and £100m, is specifically earmarked
to support SME housebuilders and devel-
opers. As long as they can demonstrate ‘the
necessary experience and track record’ to
complete projects, they can draw from the
fund to build homes for rent or sale as well
as social housing, retirement accommoda-
tion and properties for the private rented
sector.
It forms part of the Government’s ‘Hous-
ing Delivery Fund’, set up to better support
SMEs and ultimately deliver greater diversity
to the UK housing market. The new fund is
the next stage in the Government’s pledge
to build on average 300,000 new homes
every year by the mid-2020s.
Through their accurate, industry-specific
data and market intelligence, Insight Data
helps businesses across every sector to ef-
fectively target potential customers.
