Yale becomes first
manufacturer certified
by Element under
new STS218 scheme
Yale Door and Window
Solutions has become the
first manufacturer to be
certified by Element Mate-
rials Technology (Element)
under the new STS218 let-
terplate security scheme.
The scheme, which tests
letterplates for burglar re-
sistance, anti-corrosion and
durability, is a recent addi-
tion to the testing offering
at Element’s supersite in
Wednesbury, UK. It certifies
to TS008 standard, which
combats fishing for car
keys, manipulation of the
thumbturn and stealing of
mail, as well as anti-arson.

terplate is a requirement

University’s ambitious
plans to transform a dis-
used city centre site into
state-of-the-art student
facilities have been given
the go-ahead.
Liverpool City Coun-
cil’s Planning Committee
approved the plans for
the former Royal Mail site
on Copperas Hill in the
city’s Knowledge Quarter
Gateway.
The three-and-a-half-acre
development will provide
high quality new buildings
and open spaces, as well as
regenerating a key gateway
site in the heart of the city
centre.
The plans will see two
new buildings, designed by
architects Sheppard Rob-
son, become a focal point
for student life: ing services, careers advice,
international exchanges,
an area for individual and
group study, and the Stu-
dents’ Union ( JMSU).

LJMU has appointed
Morgan Sindall Construc-

the contractor to carry out
the development. Work is
scheduled to commence
on site later this year, with
completion scheduled for

ing Regulations for all new

In addition, Yale also
appointed Element to carry
out STS217 Certisecure se-
curity handle certification.
This scheme uses a manual
attack test to certify the
security of handles against
cylinder snapping – one
of the quickest and most
widely used methods of
breaking into doors.
The successful testing
of both will certify Yale’s
letterplates and handles
as secure products, giving
customers a guarantee that
they are of the highest
quality and meet stringent
safety standards.
Willmott Dixon has
teamed up with robotics
firm, Eksobionics, to trial
a high-tech exoskeleton
vest to protect supply chain
partners working on a new
school development in
Cardiff.
Willmott Dixon is the first
company in the construction
industry to trial ‘Eksovest’ –
an upper body exoskeleton
vest that supports the arms
during heavy lifting.
Funded by Eureka,
Willmott Dixon’s central
research and development
fund, the vest, which costs
approximately £5,650, will
first be used on the Car-
diff West Community High
School site. The compa-
ny will then demonstrate
Eksovest at other sites
across the country before
introducing as standard
depending on how the trials
perform.
In Cardiff, the vest will
be used to assist those
working at the Cardiff West
Community High School,
which holds the coveted
“Ultra Site” status from the
CCS (Considerate Construc-
tors Scheme). The site was
chosen to trial the newly
developed technology due
to the range of technical ac-
tivities required to complete
the build.
