DVD training for cherry pickers

The‘ MEWPs Safety- Boom Lifts’ DVD is a comprehensive training aid for everyone involved in training boom lift operators.
The hazards involved with operating boom lifts( also known as cherry pickers) are legendary in the construction and allied industries: being trapped against a structure; the machine tipping over; falling from the platform- to mention a few. YouTube has some pretty horrendous examples of the potential for disaster. So this DVD‘ MEWPs Safety- Boom Lifts’ can only be a welcome addition to the safety training aids that can be used by everyone involved in the training of operators. The DVD is also suitable for use by company health and safety managers as a refresher session for existing operators. Created and produced by Blue Slate Videos, the DVD is for trainers, and complements all recognised training courses. It has ten chapters to suit individual training needs. Alternatively there’ s a‘ play all’ function to automatically play from start to finish. Topics covered include: PPE, familiarisation,

pre-operation checks, emergency lowering, safe operation, planning the task, shutdown and general safety.“ We’ ve produced this DVD specifically for trainers of boom lift operators. The information is presented in a clear, logical and concise fashion, which can be easily absorbed by would-be operators; so we’ re hoping that it’ ll be a valuable additional training aid,” said Bob Hylton, film director at Blue Slate Videos.

SCALING NEW HEIGHTS

The Birmingham Rock Up, an indoor climbing centre, will open this summer after Wondertex helped create its exhilarating climbing walls and challenges. X & Y Partitions was contracted to complete all the drylining of the new centre’ s 26 climbs, some of which tower 25 feet high- a little different to the average walls normally tackled by the team.
‘ Prem finish is the easiest product I have ever sanded down’
The 2000m ² project was carried out using prem filler, prem finish and the self adhesive tape from the Wondertex professional dry lining range. Prem filler, plasterboard joint filler, is specially formulated for expert dryliners and used nationwide with its sister product prem
finish, a plasterboard finishing compound. A soft, workable density and smooth texture allows for outstanding product application. Prem filler is fast setting and dries quickly for early finish coat application. Once dry, the product is effortless to sand and smoothes down perfectly creating an allover seamless surface. Kevin Shemwell, X & Y Partitions said:“ Prem finish is the easiest product I have ever sanded down in over 25 years.”

THE TOOL THAT DRILLS SQUARE HOLES

A London start-up claims it has launched the world’ s first tool that can drill a square hole.
For years, electricians have struggled with rulers, pencils and handsaws to cut holes in walls for electrical sockets and other boxes. This method lacks accuracy, creates mess, and can take over five minutes to cut a single hole( including‘ making good’). QUADSAW solves this problem thanks to its unique four-blade technology, which enables users to cut square holes in seconds, with minimal dust and absolute precision. No marking up or measuring is required when using the QUADSAW as it
has built-in spirit levels and a height gauge for ease of use. It is the ideal addition to any toolbox for both professionals and DIY users. With 250,000 electricians in the UK cutting around
three holes each working day, there are almost 200 million square holes cut every year. QUADSAW could save 16 million hours of labour and over £ 320 million per annum in the
UK alone, and much more globally. The QUADSAW is compatible with power drills and most battery drills.“ This is the first product in the world that can truly
drill a square hole,” said QUADSAW designer Michael Sebhatu, co-founder of London-based start-up Genius IP.“ The uniqueness of it is not just that it cuts the hole perfectly, but that
it does so with total ease and minimal mess, making life easier for anyone who is using it.” Ean Brown, CEO and co-founder of Genius IP, added:“ When I first saw the QUADSAW in action, I knew it was a winner. It cuts a perfect square hole, which means that there’ s no‘ making good’. When you’ ve finished there is no need to return to site to plaster or fix things up. The amount of time and money that this tool can save is remarkable.”
