A DAY IN THE LIFE
OF AN INSTALLER
Solid Roofing Systems, the sky’s the limit
This month’s Pro Installer ‘Day in the Life’ looks at the advantages of offering customers an
alternative choice to a glazed conservatory roof and spends time with Max Doyle of All Round
Roofing, who explains how his solid roof supplier, helps make the whole process easy.
Over the last few years,
conservatory solid roof
systems appear to be a
growing trend, as more
and more manufacturers are investing and
offering installers and
builders a thermal conservatory solution, over
and above a traditional
glass roof.
Solid roof systems offer
homeowners an all year
round solution to be able
to use their new or existing conservatory. With
many variations now being
manufactured by a variety
of skilled and experienced
fabricators; the product is
an ideal way of offering
the consumer an upgrade
to their existing conservatory, improving the room’s
thermal efficiency and
increasing the opportunity
for the homeowner to use
it during hot or colder temperatures.
We spoke to Max Doyle of
All Round Roofing, who fits
Lancashire based fabricator,
Roof 2 Roof’s solid roofing
system. He explained how
he is a newcomer to installing solid roofing systems,
and how choosing the right
supplier is a must when
deciding to offer consumers
an alternative solution to
glass...
“I’m fairly new to insulated roofs,” explains Max. “I
installed one for the first
time about 4 months ago. I
didn’t initially use the Roof
2 Roof system but to be
honest it turned out to be a
bit of a nightmare. When it
turned up none of the tiles
or insulated plasterboard
were cut so that meant taking measurements of the dimensions and angles, then
drawing out lines and finally laying out dust sheets
in the customer’s garden
and cutting the materials to
size. There was foam and
dust everywhere. It looked
messy and unprofessional,
and the task of clearing up
was very time consuming.
“Roof 2 Roof manufactures
the Supalite roof system
and on my first order I got
the insulated plasterboard
free of charge. Two lads
from the company came out
to site to assist me with the
installation and gave me
tips on fitting the product.

“When the roof package
arrived everything was
already pre-cut to size so it
went together quickly, accurately and with minimal
mess and disruption, giving
a professional finish and
reducing my time on site.
“Since then, I have installed 8 more roofs and
customer feedback has
been fantastic. I only work
from recommendations
through word-of-mouth and
all the solid roof systems
I have installed have been
done so this way.
“Installing a solid roofing
system can be very straightforward,” Max continues,
“But, I would recommend
that an installer or builder
chooses a supplier who can
offer help with building
regulations, training and
on-going support.
“The system can come
in a variety of styles and
ensuring you have the
support from your manufacture is a must. I also
recommended you choose
