RENEWED COLLABORATION COMMITMENT BETWEEN LEADING BUILT ENVIRONMENT INSTITUTES

The Chartered Institute of Building( CIOB) and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists( CIAT) have reinforced their commitment to collaboration and partnership by renewing their Memorandum of Understanding( MoU).
This alliance between the Institutes, which has been in place since 1997, maintains and continues with its principal aim of strengthening the links between Construction Management and Architectural Technology.
It recognises the shared roles of the Chartered Institutes to ensure that the science and practise of built environment professionals benefits society. Through the Memorandum, the Institutes are committed to providing joint events across the world, collaborating on consultations where views are shared, and promoting career paths and disciplines in the built environment.
Over the past 20 years, this commitment has also benefited the professionals within membership. The MoU encourages joint networking and personal development events, supporting the continuing learning and upskilling of these professions. The Institutes also actively encourage membership of both organisations by providing a 25 % reduction on the standard rates for those aspiring to dual membership.
Chris Blythe OBE, Chief Executive of the CIOB said of the renewal,“ By working together, we can help to improve the skills, knowledge and professionalism of our members to ensure that the highest standards are met in the built environment. We look forward to continuing this close relationship with the CIAT to promote the work of our members and the industry throughout the world.”

Get‘ Real’- Norscot wins Interface innovation award

Successful VEKA Group customer Norscot took home the‘ Innovation of the Year’ trophy at the prestigious Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards 2018.
Norscot Joinery- the Highlands and Islands fabricator of PVC-U windows and doors, and timber frame kits- received the award at an evening event run by Interface in Edinburgh. The Innovation of the Year prize was awarded to Norscot, in partnership with the University of Strathclyde, in recognition for the research and development of virtual reality show home software.
Having identified a major challenge in the self-build market; that of customers being unable to‘ visualise’ their future home designs through traditional paper plans and CAD designs alone, Norscot began to work with the University of Strathclyde on software that allows a customer to‘ walkthrough’ their new-build via a combination of Building Information Modelling( BIM) and virtual reality technology.
The champion collaboration was born as Interface, the Government backed organisation which links businesses with academic partners, paired Norscot to the University of Strathclyde through the Highlands and Islands Enterprise( HIE) initiative.
