FIRE RESISTANT
GLAZING VIDEO
The GGF has published a new online
video, ‘Fire Resistant Glazing - Getting It Right versus Getting It Wrong.’
PURPLEX
CAPTURES
XTREMEDOOR
ON CAMERA
Purplex Marketing, the full service marketing agency
that specialises in the fenestration and construction
industry, recently spent two days in Merseyside filming
on behalf of leading composite door manufacturer, Vista.
Purplex was collecting footage
ready to produce a series of product
videos promoting Vista’s signature
XtremeDoor. The two-man film crew
spent time filming at three locations
- Vista’s 55,000 square foot factory,
the showroom of trade customer
Everite Windows, and on site with a
local builder as he replaced a timber
door with XtremeDoor.
Keith Sadler, managing director of Vista,
commented: “The Purplex film crew were
very professional and worked incredibly
hard over the two days, collecting some
excellent footage. Our factory is always a
hive of activity – we produce hundreds of
composite doors every day - but Purplex
worked around our busy fabricators very
effectively, causing no disruption whatsoever. The first few videos look superb and
we’ve had some very positive feedback
from our customers – I’m looking forward
to releasing the rest throughout the course
of the year.”
Purplex’s head of video, Andrew Sykes,
commented: “Vista are one of the biggest
players in the composite door market and
it was fascinating to see how they produce
XtremeDoor and capture the process on
camera. Vista’s customer, Mark Scudder
from Everite Windows, was very passionate
about XtremeDoor, so I was particularly
delighted to get his comments on film. Now
we have the footage we will be producing
12 clips optimised for Twitter’s auto-play
feature, and will be extensively promoting
these via social media.”
The Purplex video division consists of a
skilled team of experts who deliver a complete video production package, from script
to screen. The company has a dedicated
visual studio at its offices, fully equipped
with state-of-the-art cameras, lighting and
sound recording, along with the latest editing and graphics software. The crew will
travel anywhere in the UK or worldwide.
The videos will be used to help installers
explain the many benefits of XtremeDoor
to the end user. The videos can be viewed
from the XtremeDoor Youtube channel.

The video is now on the GGF website
and visually shows the effects of why fire
resistant glazing should be used and just
as importantly why it should be installed
correctly.
Fire-resistant glass has been designed to
protect lives and prevent fire damage to
property and should be an important part
of any building where there is a fire safety
risk. Getting the specification and installation right is critical. Fire easily exposes any
weaknesses.
Kevin Hulin, Chairman of the GGF Fire
Resistant Glazing Group, commented: “The
new video clearly demonstrates the potentially catastrophic effect when normal
glazing is used instead of fire resistant
glazing as part of a building’s fire prevention strategy. Fire resistant glazing systems
that have been fire tested and third party
accredited, provide cost effective protection
for people’s safety and for buildings in the
event of a fire.”
GGF Training is currently running fire
resistant glazing installer training courses,
to give an appreciation of why best practice
aspects are particularly important. It provides glaziers with a risk-based approach
for avoiding mistakes, in line with the latest
legislation, and prepares them with expla-
nations required in describing to clients,
and those responsible for buildings, why
important aspects require particular care
and consideration.

resistant glazing course, visit http://www.

venues, costs, locations) can be found under
the Course Search & Booking section with
additional course dates and locations to be
released shortly.

Partnership delivers pilot terrace
An offsite manufacturing hub in Walsall which
produces high quality,
sustainable low carbon
housing has successfully partnered with
Cheshire housing association, Halton Housing Trust, to deliver a
£500,000 four home
pilot.
LoCaL Homes, part of the
Accord Group, is a factory based in Stephenson
Avenue, Walsall, and is
manufacturing a four-home
terrace at Grangeway in
Runcorn.
Jason Powell, Head of
Manufacturing for LoCaL
Homes, said: “We are delighted to be entering into
this new partnership to
deliver offsite timber framed
homes with Halton Hous-
‘Halton can
build more
homes, faster’
ing Trust. Manufacturing
and building homes in this
way is proving to be much
quicker than traditional
methods and means that
housing associations such
as Halton can build more
homes, faster, to help meet
housing need.”
John Dale, Investment
Manager at Halton Housing
Trust, added: “This partnership marks the start of
an exciting development
for the delivery of homes in
Cheshire.
“We will use this experience of partnering with
LoCal Homes to train and
educate local contractors
in offsite construction and
contribute to the delivery of
energy efficient homes in
the north.”
LoCaL Homes made UK
history for the Accord
Group when it opened its
doors in October 2011,
making it the first housing
association in the country to
have its own factory. Since
then it has won two national awards and expanded its
premises to incorporate a
new storage warehouse to
help speed up the production process. Employing 22
people, many previously
unemployed, the factory
produces around 200 homes
a year on one shift.
