In fact, more than 1 in 3 (37%) of those surveyed said they would decline a job based on poor hardware alone. 74% believe technology makes them more produc- tive at work, which is why it is so important when looking for a new role. Having the latest technol- ogy was valued more than other office perks, such as flexible working (45%), the working environment/decor (39%) and staff discounts (33%). Mark Kelly, marketing man- ager at LaptopsDirect.co.uk, 9. Retail – 35% 10. Transportation – 33% said: “It’s no surprise that the latest technology is important for many of us when consid- ering a new role. It appears that some employers may be focusing too much on other perks such as office design or providing staff discounts and are missing the basics. “Whilst these perks may still be important for attract- ing new talent, access to the latest technology enables employees to be more productive, and so has a better impact on the overall business. Also, everyone will have worked with slower, old technology at some point in their careers and experienced frustration. Kelly continued: “There- fore, finding a balance of office perks is key to re- cruiting the best candidates and can also ensure that employees feel valued and happy in their jobs.” Workers in marketing val- ued technology the highest, with 84% of the votes, fol- lowed by those in creative and photographic (81%), information and communi- cations (78%), professional services (73%) and educa- tion (71%).
