CUMBRIAN COTTAGE RENOVATION
Four sliding PatioMaster doors were specified as part of a large-scale renovation project on a property in Brethdale, Cumbria. The complete project was supplied and installed by Carlisle-based World Group, and as director Matthew Spooner says, took around 12 months to complete.
“ The project was completed in 2016 and due to the scale of the job it was done across various phases. Comprising four patio doors, three stable doors and 15 casement windows along with a Juliet balcony to the master

bedroom and some external PVCu cladding, it was not without its challenges. Cumbria may be an area of picturesque villages and attractive lakes, but it offers |
many challenges in terms of wind exposure due to our geographical location, so getting the right product to meet the environmental needs was crucial.” |
While the property is relatively new in its build, it required a complete refurb and the doors and windows replacing, as certain parts of the property were completely exposed, providing no protection against the elements. The homeowners used quite an unusual stone as part of the refurb on the property exterior and they wanted the new PatioMaster doors to stand out against this, and create a striking focal point.
Matthew said:“ We spent many hours going over samples and colour swatches until we got the balance right, in the end going for two panes in Irish oak for

the exterior and white on the interior. Matching bright chrome hardware completed the doors, and the results were definitely worth it – the property wouldn’ t look out of place on Grand Designs.
“ The PatioMaster range perfectly suited what the homeowners were looking for not only in terms of its design choice, but also the attention to detail- the property is now much warmer and secure thanks to the system’ s advanced security features and energy efficiency accreditations, including being SBD Accredited.” The property’ s owners were very happy with the

result from the renovation and commented:“ We are thrilled with the work World Group have completed. The colour of the doors is lovely and we were impressed with the way all the staff were considerate, knowledgeable and took pride in their work. We would not hesitate to recommend World Group for a wide range of property improvements – they offered a great product at a great price!”
PatioMaster offers low profile frames, quality construction and security features as well as being available in a range of 19 colours and finishes to suit every style of home.

GLAZERITE TURNS TO BLUESKY
The Glazerite UK Group Ltd has joined the newly-established Bluesky Certification scheme in partnership with the Network VEKA ACE initiative which provides many additional benefits.
The company is the largest PVCu trade fabricator so far to sign up to Bluesky since the specialist certification body was launched last September. Glazerite director Jason Thompson said:“ This is an organisation with a fresh, modern approach that is
committed to giving us far more than just a certificate to put on the wall.
“ Among many other advantages, working with this partnership allows us to cascade data from VEKA and Halo products without the need for type testing, which means any change of hardware is quick and easy.
“ The cascading allows us to certificate a far wider range of hardware, providing us with enhanced flexibility on our product choice.

“ There are many very real advantages with Bluesky Certification, all of which will be shared with our installer partners across the country, these namely being improved efficiencies and service, which can only benefit us all.”
The move also means that all three of the newly-expanded group’ s manufacturing sites will operate under the same scheme, which further streamlines the operation as a whole.

Birmingham based trade fabricator Flair Windows has switched fully to the Yale Mantis 3 door lock for its Kömmerling PVCu single and double doors.
Originally, Flair used Mantis on just its PAS24 doors but decided to fit them‘ across the board’ following positive feedback from customers and installers.
Flair advises that, in addition to the lock’ s performance, the instant brand recognition that comes with all Yale’ s products as standard was a major reason to move exclusively to the product.
The locks are supplied by VBH, which provides Flair with greenteQ and Yale hardware for its PVCu and aluminium production lines.
The lock is part of a Yale / greenteQ hardware package that has been tested to PAS24 at BSI. The resulting certification enables Flair’ s installer customers to quote for new-build work as they can produce documented evidence that their doors meet the requirements of Document Q.
