Whilst the number of home burglaries has fallen as a result, unoccupied properties have become a much easier target for thieves. The vast majority of break-ins occur through a door (either by kicking it in or forcing the lock) and most customers still rely on one or two primary locks to secure their door. The (Kite)mark of increased door security sales Sterling’s British Standard Kitemarked DoorMinder cylinders hold pride of place at the top of its popular range of Euro profile cylinders. Available in both 3-star and 1-star models, DoorMinder Euro cylinders have been indepently tested to and passed the latest TS007:2014 standard. Sterling’s 3-star and 1-star Kitemarked DoorMinder ranges feature anti-drill, anti-pick and anti-bump protection and are Snap Safe. For added security, 3-star Kitemarked DoorMinder cylinders incorporate an innovative and patented cam locking mechanism, which is automatically engaged when the key is removed. A 1-star cylinder paired with 2-star door handle not only provides 3-star protection, but also offers the savvy installer an upsell opportunity. Coming with a 10yr guarantee, both DoorMinder ranges cover all popular sizes from 70-100mm and are available in double cylinder and thumbturn variants. The 3-Star models also adds single cylinders to the range and a new dual finish with satin nickel body and brass plug. All DoorMinder cylinders feature a standard section keyway and are available with either keyed-alike or master key options. Pinning and keying services are now available for both 3-star and 1-star DoorMinder cylinders through Sterling’s sister brand Burg-Wächter UK. Electronic access control – your flexible friend Smart technology is playing an increasingly central role in both business and private lives and the digital revolution is making its way into the locks business. Once the preserve of commercial offices or large multiple occupancy buildings, affordable electronic door cylinders are becoming more popular as a “smart” security solution for both homes and businesses. Access control needs can vary widely, from just a few users of one lock in a residential or small business property, through to ever changing multiple users of multiple locks in a large commercial facility or hotel. The rise in popularity of short term home/ holiday letting has led to a greater demand for flexible multiple access systems that allow the owner to quickly and easily add access rights, often at a distance from the property itself. Most electronic door locks come with one or more means of entry, such as keypad, biometric (fingerprint), Bluetooth or RFID. Burg-Wächter’s entry level “secuENTRY Easy” system combines keypad, biometric fingerprint reader and Bluetooth technologies into one easy to use system. The illuminated keypad is programmable with up to 50 different users with a choice of one million different codes for high levels of security. There is also the option to include a biometric finger scanner, capable of recognising up to 24 different prints for added convenience. The keypad provides IP65 weatherproof protection against dust and water, making it ideal for doors inside and out. The power of Bluetooth allows the lock to be activated via the Burg-Wächter smartphone app, which is available for both Android and iOS. Offering all the functions of the “secuENTRY Easy” system, the next step up is the “secuEN- TRY Pro” professional installation system. The stylish compact cylinder adds the flexibility of RFID access in the shape of passive transponder key fob. This forms the basis of Burg-Wächter’s new AirBnB solution, which combines secuEntry Easy keypad, cylinder and emergency override key with a USB dongle for cylinder programming and PC software. The AirBnB pacakge can manage up to eight different locks across multiple properties, with the option to give cleaning and maintenance personnel a non-expiring pincode or keyfob. With no physical keys to handover and the ability to remotely set access periods and send guests pincodes that automatically expire, this makes it the ideal access control solution for short-term/ holiday lets. Easy installation One of the biggest deterrents for customers thinking of switching to electronic door locks is the expense and inconvenience. Burg-Wächter’s “secuENTRY” is designed to be a direct replacement for standard Euro cylinders, cutting installation time and cost by leaving the existing lock housing in place. The length of the electronic cylinder is adjustable up to 59/59mm, making it suitable for a wide range of door thicknesses up to 130mm. Another installation consideration is power. All “secuENTRY” systems avoid this issue as both the keypad and cylinder are battery powered, and have a wireless operating range of up to 4m. Once activated, the electronics release the locking mechanism inside the cylinder allowing the knob to be turned manually. This method of opening the door keeps power consumption to a minimum, meaning that depending on setup, the system has a battery life of up to four years. www.burg.biz/uk
