of the property could be up to
20o and condensation would not
appear. On our traditional range
of rooflights we accommodate a
20o difference, as it is very rare for
British weather to drop to such
low temperatures.
Whilst preventing condensa-
tion from forming, a key area of
consideration for PHI, the accred-
ited rooflight also offers a 30 per
cent increase in thermal efficiency,
significantly improving the envi-
ronmental credentials of the build.
We are currently in the process of
getting our stepped glass frame
patented, a design that we created
in-house ourselves to improve the
product’s thermal performance.
One area we were conscious of
when creating the rooflight was
the weight and practicality of the
product. Many manufacturers may
look to create a rooflight that is
quadruple glazed in order to try
and meet the level of thermal
efficiency required. However, part
of the Passive House standard is
ensuring that the product is not
only environmentally friendly, but
also cost saving.
Quadruple glazing would make
the rooflight significantly heavier,
making installation a lot harder
and more expensive. Our Pas-
sive House fixed flat rooflight is
installed in the exact same way
as our regular fixed flat rooflight,
making the construction of a
thermally efficient home more
available to the masses. This is
due to our unique stepped glass
frame and super insulated foam
that is placed around the glass,
which enables us to only use tri-
ple glazing.
What are the benefits
for installers and
architects?
The self build market has
continued to increase in pop-
ularity over the last decade,
notably towards the desire to
create energy efficient housing.
By recommending and specifying
Passive House accredited prod-
ucts to installers and contractors,
professionals can be confident
that they are using materials that
are guaranteed to help achieve
the highest level of thermal
efficiency and also longevity of
performance.
This helps to streamline the
process for architects and in-
stallers, as they have a dedicated
database of solutions that have
been proven to help achieve the
highest standard. By being able
to recommend these products,
it also enables professionals to
remain at the forefront of their
industry and sector advance-
ments.
What is Roof Maker’s
vision for Passive House
for the future?
We’re looking to get all of our
rooflights accredited by Passive
House in the future. We began
with our fixed flat rooflight as it
is our most popular product, but
we’re now beginning to develop a
Passive House accredited hinged
rooflight and Luxlite version in
order to offer a complete range
of solutions that offer outstanding
thermal efficiency.
