FUNDRAISING , FRESH AIR AND

SOME FRIENDLY COMPETITION

But who took the trophy at Clearview ’ s first ever Charity Golf Day ?

18 holes , 17 teams , more than £ 12,000 raised for GM Fundraising and a ‘ longest drive ’ of approximately 200 miles ; Clearview ’ s inaugural Charity Golf Day is in the bag , and they ’ re already putting plans in place for the next one .
Taking place at the stunning Hickleton Golf Club - just a stone ’ s throw from Clearview HQ - 68 players gathered at the clubhouse on the morning of Thursday , 26th May to meet their teammates , pick up their scorecards and enjoy breakfast butties and a hot drink ( or something cold and fizzy ) in preparation for an 11.30am shotgun start .
After breakfast / brunch , the 17 teams of four were ready to locate their first tee - each one sponsored by one of the participating brands and businesses - and readied themselves for the siren that would start the day . Each team would then work their way around the South Yorkshire course , hole-by-hole ; with some extra ( optional ) challenges along the way .
On the 12th hole ( par 3 ), players could opt to ‘ Beat the Pro ’ - Hickleton ’ s resident professional and coach - for the chance to win a commemorative trophy at the evening ’ s award event . Closer to the clubhouse , a putting competition saw a bottle of whisky up for grabs .
Steve Sidebottom , Clearview Director , commented : “ We ’ ve had the idea of a golf day for a while now , but due to the pandemic , it had to be shelved . Golf is a really popular pastime for many in fenestration , and while we thought it would be popular , we were delighted with the turn out and how the industry got behind the event and the fundraising efforts . In fact , the fundraising took shape weeks before tee-off with every hole being sponsored well in advance . Needless to say this will be an annual event in our calendar .
“ We chose to make it a charity fundraiser event as we know how hard charitable organisations have been hit over the past few years . Gary Morton and GM Fundraising are well-known and respected in our sector for the sponsored sporting events they do . We approached Gary with a request to raise some vital funds for Hope House Children ’ s Hospices , and were delighted when he agreed .”
For the golfers , the main focus for the majority of the day of course , is the course . And , for the most part the day provided decent conditions , albeit some drizzle and wind in certain parts to battle with ( or use as an excuse !). The round took approximately four and a half hours , with players returning for that all-important 19th hole more than ready for refreshments . For non-golfers , the clubhouse provided the perfect location to relax and chat with fellow non-players , enjoy a few drinks and keep a watchful eye on the table of auction prizes sitting ready for the evening ’ s raffle and post-dinner auction .
The golf may have ended at 4.30pm , but the day was far from over as the evening activities commenced . Following a well-deserved meal , Steve Sidebottom , Clearview Director took to the mic to thank all sponsors and players , and - most importantly - announce the winners of the various trophies throughout the day .
As this was the inaugural Clearview Charity Golf Day , the first name on the trophy will always be a special one , and the winning team of the whole day was Quickslide ’ s Jake Harrison , Billy Lindsay and Julian Balmforth ; led by Kirk Easton , who played off-scratch . Since then , the trophy has been engraved and delivered to Quickslide until the next tournament .
Four players ‘ Beat the Pro ’ taking home individual miniature trophies whilst the winner of the putting contest earned themselves a bottle of whisky . The longest drive on the course was Jamie Seller , and the ‘ longest drive ’ of more than 200miles - a twist on the classic competition to thank people for travelling across the UK to take part - went to Chigwell Window Centre ; the main sponsors of the event .
