JULY 2018 | 3 News Read online at www.proinstaller.co.uk LETTER TO THE EDITOR HOUSEBUILDING IS BACK, IS YOUR BUSINESS MISSING OUT? Whilst it’s long been said that the UK housebuilding industry is on its knees, we are once again beginning to see an increase of new houses being built. Yes, it may not yet be enough to meet the incredible demand for houses, but new developments are appearing all over the UK. In fact, in 2017 UK construction companies experienced their best year in a decade as builders registered plans to start over 160,000 new homes – an increase of 6% on the year before. Homes England to launch new framework to help speed up the delivery of new homes At the end of this month Homes England launches the procurement of its new Multidisciplinary and Technical Services Frameworks, which will broaden the range of technical and design services available to support Homes England’s and other public bodies’ work to accelerate the supply of new homes. The frameworks will provide direct access to professional, techni- cal and design services, building the strong working relationships need- ed with these service providers to prepare land for housing develop- ment and disposal to the market. The frameworks will provide Homes England, and other pub- lic-sector bodies, with an OJEU compliant and efficient means to procure technical and design ser- vices, helping support the govern- ment’s ambition to deliver 300,000 homes a year by the middle of the next decade. Valued at £150m, the new frameworks with replace Homes England’s current framework that expires in November 2018. Homes England will make the frameworks available to other public-sector bodies, for exam- ple local authorities, to help them procure specialist technical services and develop homes for their residents. Our frameworks have been used by over 300 other public bodies. The new frameworks will have an underpinning Multidis- ciplinary Framework, which will act as a one stop shop to pro- cure a range of integrated tech- nical and design services from a single source. Homes England has operated this arrangement successfully in the past, which will enable the organisation to continue to work with compa- nies and their specialist sub-con- sultant teams. https://www.gov.uk/government/ organisations/homes-england It appears that positive effect has continued in the first half of 2018, thanks in- part to the beginning of the Government’s five-year plan to inject £44 billion into house- building to meet their budget pledge of building 300,000 new homes every year by the mid-2020s. What does this all mean? It means there’s once again sizeable demand for building products from the housebuilding industry and for supply and installation part- ners who can service these new developments. In the past few months alone, we’ve reported on a number of new developments. Firstly, there were the projects named in the Government’s statement which included 200 homes in Devon and 300 homes in Lancashire – two of many council-owned sites now avail- able through £45M of funding into local infrastructure. Next was the former Transport for London tunnelling site in East London, providing 1,500 homes in the capital with 40% earmarked as affordable. And finally, we broke the story of the Top Gear test track in Surrey being converted into a mini-town of 1,800 homes. Not only is this great pro- gress, this is a great opportu- nity for businesses within the fenestration industry – if they are proactive and effectively market themselves along with their products and services. Without question, now is the this is a great opportunity for ‘ businesses within the fenestration industry – if they are proactive and effectively market themselves along with their products and services ’ time to be investing in market- ing and communicating with housebuilders, main contrac- tors and even architects if businesses want to be involved in these lucrative, high-profile developments. As one of the largest provid- ers of prospect data and mar- ket intelligence for the glazing and construction industries, we work closely with fabricators, installers and product manu- facturers developing high-im- pact email marketing and direct mail campaigns target- ed to these sectors.
