However , it ’ s essential to acknowledge the challenges that come with aluminium usage in fenestration . Its high thermal conductivity could pose energy efficiency concerns if not addressed properly . Manufacturers have responded to this by incorporating thermal breaks , insulating materials that disrupt the flow of heat , into aluminium frames to enhance their energy performance . Additionally , while aluminium ’ s sleek aesthetic is a hallmark , it may not appeal to those seeking a warmer , traditional look often associated with other materials . Manufacturers have risen to the occasion , investing in research and development to mitigate these drawbacks . Advanced coating technologies have been introduced to enhance aluminium ’ s resistance to heat transfer , addressing the thermal efficiency issue . The adaptability of aluminium in fenestration is a testament to the industry ’ s dynamic nature , with manufacturers continually refining their techniques and materials to strike the perfect balance between aesthetics , durability , and energy efficiency . In doing so , they not only meet the demands of the present but also pave the way for the continued prominence of aluminium in the ever-evolving fenestration landscape .
At BSW , we have partnered with Sheerline as our aluminium supplier . Sheerline is at the forefront of sustainable practices , using only UK sourced material and produced in the most energy efficient aluminium extrusion plant in the UK . Proving the recyclability , 75 % of aluminium produced is still in use today . Aluminium truly is the ultimate sustainable solution for high performance windows . The design of the profile we use is made to vastly reduce fabrication waste , minimising the unnecessary consumption of raw materials . To back this up , the aluminium is pressed using the latest technology on the market , a state-of-the-art SMS HYBREX press , delivering energy savings of up to 55 % compared to traditional aluminium presses . All production waste is recycled back to the same Welsh aluminium foundry the majority of the aluminium logs are sourced from . Further supporting UK based closed loop recycling .
Our aluminium offerings include the Classic window profile ; allowing high performance but also a sleek design with slim frames , or if thermal efficiency is what you ’ re after , the Prestige window does just this . The Prestige window is our most thermally efficient 72 / 80mm system whilst also accommodating the largest apertures but not compromising on style . Moving on to doors , we have the Prestige range , including single and French doors , bi-fold doors and the newly released Prestige lift and slide patio , all offering top of the range thermal efficiency with smart design . And last but certainly not least is the Classic Heritage door , available as a single or French door , with slim sightlines , high performance , and aesthetic timeless looks .
At BSW , aluminium is here to stay . We recognise there is now a much higher demand , reflected by our increase in production and notice . If you ’ re interested in learning more , please don ’ t hesitate to contact us using the email address : enquiries @ bsws . co . uk

FrameFit fire door remediation system

It is estimated that around 30 million non-compliant fire doors in the UK pose a significant risk , with 80 % failing due to excessive gaps between the door and frame . However , replacing an entire fire door when it fails can be costly . FrameFit is a fully tested , high expansion fire and smoke seal for existing fire doors with excessive gaps between the door and frame . This gap must be no more than 4mm for the door perimeter , while the door base gap must be no more than 10mm for fire doors or 3mm for fire and smoke doors . Supplied in kit form in 5.2m long rolls of 1.5 , 3 and 5mm thickness for differing gap sizes , FrameFit brings defective , nominal and notional fire doors into compliance quickly and easily on site .
