A9R1x2glp6_1ocoysj_ek0.pdf 1 11/02/2020 16:26:08 As the tiled roof category is grow- ing, with more installers introducing the product into their offering, and there- fore more installations taking place, it is becoming more important to ensure that the design and specifications of the systems meet up to the highest standards. So, what lurks beneath those tiles? And what makes the Icotherm system so unique? Anne-Marie Busch, Marketing Man- ager, explains. Mostly, this product is referred to as a tiled roof, sometimes a warm roof. From my own experience I can say that this has been driven by the need to come up with a descriptive that would best get across what this roof offers. Here at Icotherm we generically refer to our roofs as “solid” as we in fact use two very specific roofing constructions within our range. A cold roof construction: and yes, cold roof does not exactly give all the right feels, hence opting to go for “sol- id”. But what does it mean? “A cold roof has the thermal insula- tion layer located between the ceiling joists so that everything above the insulation (rafters, any roof space) will be colder than the living space below it. As can be seen from the illustra- tion (cross section 1), that is how the Icoroof, Icoview and Ico600 are con- structed, ensuring the empty spaces are well ventilated (as a traditional roof would be) to avoid condensation. By using 155mm EPS insulation we ensure that the “cold” from this roof stays well away from the room. Take a closer look at our unique roof system Ridge Cover Air Flow Air flows in over the eaves and out at the ridges or wall plate. OSB 3 Light, strong OSB board, with excellent water resistance. Drainage Mat Shingle Used to improve air flow and allow the roof to breathe and prevent condensation. Tiled Roof Slate Choose from our extensive colour options in slate or shingle. Eco-friendly Fully Ventilated Sustainable, FSC certified timber For the perfect living environment On the other hand, you can use a warm roof construction. “I thought all the tiled roofs are “warm”, I hear you say… Well, no… and that is why it is so important to understand that those terms actually have very particular meanings. A warm roof is a type of roof con- struction which has an insulation layer above the rafters, and immediately below its weatherproof membrane. by name Thermally Efficient 0.16 U-Value Building Control Compliant The illustration (cross section 2) high- lights how this works for Icospan, our flat roof solution. By using EPS insula- tion, both for the flat ceiling section, the ladder frame for the lantern, we have designed a simple to install yet highly effective flat warm roof offering. So in summary the Icotherm roofs use both constructions, to suit specific roof styles. They are specified to the highest levels to guarantee performance: • Timber, a material with thermal conductivity of only 0.16 W/m2k, simplifies the process of insula- tion and ventilation – against an aluminium frame), as it does not require cloaking. • Premium C24 building grade timber and 155mm EPS boards guarantees the structural integrity and U-Value performance (0.18W/m2k, which can be brought down to 0.12W/m2k with the use of insulated plasterboard, ideal for the Scottish market). • Designed either with a fully venti- lated “cold” roof construction, with airflow circulating over the eaves and through the entire roof, or with a “warm” roof construction, ensur- ing condensation will never be an issue. • Pre-fabricated pods and pre-cut insulation provides a solution that goes up quickly (an average sized roof should go up in 2 hours, with the waterproof membrane on) • 155mm fully recyclable, rigid EPS insulation And did you know? • CRA (Condensations Risk Analysis) checked and approved. • Beams and insulation pre-cut to size • Cut tile service available for shingle tiles • Tiles delivered with the roof • Fully labelled components for a wor- ry-free installation • Building Control Compliant • We can design gable roofs without tie bars
