PRESTIGE EDINBURGH DEVELOPMENT SET TO LAUNCH
An 84-apartment development considered to be the most
upmarket in Scotland’s recent history is due to launch in the
coming days, welcoming guests and prospective buyers.
Unlike anything ever
launched in Edinburgh - and
more akin in ambition and level
of high-end style to a develop-
ment built in the most salubrious
parts of London or Paris - The
Crescent at Donaldson’s by CALA
among the most
‘ ambitious
projects
’
Homes (East) is a bold and
sweeping arc of glass-fronted
apartments.
Work started on the develop-
ment in July 2017, with BAM
Construction securing a £30mil-
lion contract to deliver the main
shell and core structure – with
CALA’s own expert team carrying
out the fit out of the contempo-
rary homes.
The entire development, worth
more than £90million, is among
the most ambitious projects
undertaken by CALA and sees
the firm bring to life its vision for
one of the most important sites in
Scotland.
As well as its visionary architec-
ture, the development has a prized
location nestled to the private rear
of the capital’s iconic Donaldson’s
estate, located within the city’s
UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Technical Workshop is a

VEKA Group saves enough
energy to power a village!
After a four-day audit, in-
dustry-leading systems supplier
VEKA Group was awarded the
International Standard ISO 50001
Energy Management Systems.
2018 alone saw enough energy
saved to power 750 average-sized
houses for a full year.
MD Dave Jones explains: “We’re
very proud to have seen our hard
work in this area recognised, but
the certification is by no means
the ‘end point’, rather, an impor-
tant milestone in our continuous
endeavour to reduce energy across
the business.
“One of VEKA Group’s biggest
energy-related investments in
recent years was a new substation
that enabled the introduction of
81 sub-meters across the business.
These give instant measurable
feedback on our usage and any
improvement actions taken.
“We replaced an existing
transformer with a newer, more
energy-efficient version which
achieved a saving of 30,000kWh /
year, and our Operations Manag-
ers have set energy consumption
parameters for the extrusion lines
which are checked every day.
Significant parts of the extrusion
equipment have also been upgrad-
ed saving 255,000kWh per year.”
