After all, such a charming turn of phrase could be used to describe each of these with seemingly exquisite gran- deur. For Ballymena based manu- facturer Apeer however, it’s a play on the Swedish word ‘silke’, or Silka, as their new range of smooth skin doors is called. Silka products join a pres- tigious range offered by the Northern Irish firm, who already have their Traditional, Contempo- rary and Modo composite doors firmly established in the indus- try marketplace alongside their Lumi and Lumi2 seamless glazing systems. The offering is a direct response to a growing popularity for smooth skin doors, initiat- ed by trendsetting aluminium doors. For utmost convenience, Apeer have added Silka to the door builder function on their website and also to their quoting and ordering program. Now, customers can sit in their own homes and design the perfect entrance way. www.apeer.co.uk NO ESCAPE FOR COMPANY BOSSES RESPONSIBLE FOR NUISANCE CALLS Company directors whose firms plague people with unsolicited nuisance calls will be personally liable if their company breaks the law. New legislation comes into force which means the UK data protection watchdog, the Informa- tion Commissioner’s Office (ICO), can now hold company bosses directly responsible. Previously some had liquidated their firms to avoid big penalties. Minister for Digital Margot James said: “There is now no hiding place for the small minority of rogue directors who have previously tried to escape justice. We are deter- mined to stamp this menace out and this new law is the latest in a series of measures to rid society of the plague of nuisance calls. Estimates by Ofcom show Brit- ish consumers were bombarded with 3.9 billion nuisance phone calls and texts last year. Previously it was only the businesses them- selves that were liable for fines of up to £500,000 rather than individ- uals. Some directors escaped pay- ing by declaring bankruptcy only to open up again under a different name. Now the ICO can hold com- pany directors directly responsible with further fines of up to half a million pounds.” This new legislation is the latest in a long line of measures de- signed to put an end to unwanted calls and texts. Complaints to the ICO and Ofcom about nuisance calls have fallen for the second year in a row suggesting the ac- tion taken is working.
