A Door for Life
All installers will have customers who have an idea of what they want, but aren’t sure exactly
how to achieve it. These sorts of customer are usually more warming to being up-sold to.
In other words, being
persuaded to spend a
little more than they
had originally planned.

In many cases, it is possible to end up with a satisfied customer who realises
they are happier than they
would have been if they had
chosen a less expensive but
inferior option.
Of course, to make this
happen you have to sell
them something of quality that genuinely delights
them, for example; a
homeowner who is in the
fortunate position of having
a stunning landscape visible
from at least one side of
their house.
These customers are prime
prospects for large glazed
areas to make the most of
the view. One option is a
sliding door set geared with
Roto Patio Life.
On the face of it, this is a
suite of hardware that can
be used to make a very
large sliding sash, either
from timber, or VEKASLIDE
PVCu profile.
Creating a
More Capable
Door System
The Patio Life system’s
key advantage is just how
heavy the sash can go up
to. The doorset can be up
to 400 kg, and at the same
time, it remains incredibly
easy to operate with a
simple turn of the handle,
it slides effortlessly.
All of this is achieved
because of the Roto gasket system. Instead of the
sash being lifted, the horizontal seals are raised. It
explains how the system
is able to meet all the requirements of EN 1312616 for sliding doors.
With the exceptional
load bearing capability,
you can go wider, higher
and heavier. It is possible
to have a sliding door
sash 3235 mm wide.
There’s no better way to
create an unobstructed
view of the landscape and
incorporate accessibility
along with security and
energy efficiency.
The height limit is 2670
mm, enough to cover
some of the tallest rooms
from floor to ceiling.
Even if you aren’t going
to these extremes, the
400 kg limit makes it
possible to incorporate
heavier glass, such as
triple glazed units. This,
coupled with the sealing
properties of the gasket
system, makes Patio Life
ideal for eco-buildings.
It has already been used
on several Passivhaus
projects.
The very light operation
means a Patio Life door
can be operated by people who are elderly or
infirm. There is another
advantage too, because
the enhanced threshold
provides a completely
flat crossing between
the inside and outside of
the building. This makes
it ideal for wheelchairs,
and there are no tripping
hazards or obstructions
that might affect the use
of walking aids.
‘this high level of
security need not
be compromised’
No Compromise
on Security
The adjustable mushroom
cams used on Patio Life
are of the same type used
in the Roto NT Tilt &Turn
hardware system, which
has met every applicable
security standard. Patio Life
is designed to meet the requirements of EN Resistance
Class 2 (RC2).
Another plus point is that
this high level of security
need not be compromised
if the homeowner wishes
to allow a s
