Jessica perfectly epitomises the ‘ behind the scenes ’ faces of fenestration that keeps the industry thriving , factories functioning and offices operating . Pro Installer was happy to catch up with her recently to find out how she started in the sector , her day-to-day duties and what it is really like to be a woman in the window and door industry …
“ From leaving full time education I wanted to go into performing arts , but after three years , I realised it wasn ’ t for me . I started my first admin role at an Automatic Door company . I was the only girl in the office . This role enabled me to quickly and efficiently learn how to deal with a masculine environment and hold my own .
“ I had my children when I was aged 21 and 22 and I left the company to be with them as I certainly had my hands full . When my eldest son started

“ My motivation , tenacity and work ethic come from following my mother ’ s example . My own motto is ‘ Trust the path , it will lead you to where you want to be ’ and that stands for both your personal and professional life
” school full time , I began working in the glass industry , joining Morley Glass in November 2017 .
“ I think fenestration used to be a ‘ boys club ’ from stories I have heard . There is a small minority within the industry who will only accept the information I am giving them from a male colleague . That ’ s their ignorance not mine ! However , times have changed , I ’ m fortunate to know so many successful women in the industry and draw on their experience . Not forgetting I am surrounded
by strong women ( and men ) daily .
“ Having said that , I do believe that women in this industry have to be significantly more ambitious and motivated to progress into senior management - for example - and to stay on the same platform as men . As a working mum and wife , I have to spin lots of plates and at times it seems incredibly daunting , which a lot of modern professional women face these days .
“ The role I am in now without

a doubt is my biggest achievement and I feel proud every day to be a part of a fantastic company , facilitating to manage and continue its success in all areas of the business . My short term goal is to get through 2021 as smoothly as we can , I think we can all agree that the past two years have been challenging . My long term goal is to keep growing within the fenestration industry .
“ I ’ m always listening and learning from others but a piece of advice that sticks with me was from our MD Ian Short and the importance of managing people ’ s expectations : ‘ JUST DO IT !’ Outside of work , it sounds a little cheesy , but my mum and my big sister are my main inspiration . She is a retired , but full time Granny now to my boys . Growing up she was the most

“ We are constantly working on new things at Morley Glass .
