27 PRO INSTALLER DECEMBER 2016 PRO NEWS @proinstaller1 DANISH COOL HOTS UP Tradespeople often like to keep a weather eye on home interior styles. But not since the rise of the ‘grey’ trend have they seen a craze like the Danish one sweeping the nation. ‘Hygge’ - pronounced hoogahr - is the Danish way of life that home and interiors magazines tell us we’re all desperate to adopt this winter. It’s about wrapping up warm, spending more time with family and friends and embracing all things cosy, and the focus is hugely on the home. LEDHut.co.uk’s lighting consultant Chris Evans and interiors expert Katie Glenn from JulianCharles.co.uk have been giving out top tips for transforming homes into ‘hygge’ sanctuaries. Katie said: “Hygge is all about texture. Adding texture to a home will instantly make it feel warmer and more cosy. Chunky knits and throws layered up on a sofa or bed are a simple way of doing this. Adding extra cushions to the sofa will also build texture. Faux fur and soft mohair are great options. “People want to make their home a place where they can just sit and enjoy the simple pleasures in life whether that’s a mug of hot chocolate or a nice glass of wine in front of the fire. This means attention to detail is crucial. People are thinking about colour palettes that will feel warm and comforting particularly during the winter. “Start with a base palette of greys and browns, then add in in some warmth with rich wine red accents using statement curtains or decorative cushions.” Chris Evans from LEDHut.co.uk says: “Lighting can really transform a room making it feel warmer or cooler at the flick of a switch. For lighting that casts a warm glow within your home it’s important to have a variety of different options so that you can alter them depending on your mood. Dimmer switches are a really useful tool allowing you to lower the lights when it’s cold and rainy outside and will allow candles and warm fairy lights come into their own.” He continued: “Candles are a crucial part of hygge that can create a real feeling of intimacy within the home, whilst being relatively inexpensive. If you aren’t keen on naked flames - particularly around children or pets - opt for real wax LED powered candles. Dot them around your home to create a warm cosy glow. It’s all about recreating that homely open fire feeling. “Finally if candles and fairy lights aren’t your thing, think about switching up your existing lighting. Filament bulbs in warm whiter are a very simple upgrade that make a fantastic focal point in any room. Try them without lampshades to really embrace Scandi-chic.” LEDHut.co.uk JulianCharles.co.uk Interested in Becoming a Roof Assured Registered Installer?
