This is why Uni-Blinds ® pleated blackout blinds can make a difference to the sleeping environment during the summer, providing sufficient darkness as well as keeping the room relatively cool. These benefits are also important all yearround for homeowners and tenants who work shifts and regularly need to sleep during the day.
Protecting our homes in a changing climate
Aside from creating the right sleeping environment, integral blinds can help more generally to ensure our homes are better equipped for the UK’ s changing climate. In particular, protecting our homes in the face of summer heatwaves which researchers predict will occur more often in future.
The Met Office reported earlier in the year that“ hot spells will become more frequent in our future climate, particularly over the southeast of the UK,” and“ temperatures are projected to rise in all seasons, but the heat would be most intense in summer.” But what does this mean for windows and doors?
Given how window and door glass contributes to solar gain within a property, glazing on elevations exposed to sunshine for extended periods will need additional protection in the form of either solar control glass and blinds – or, ideally, both.
The latter may well be pleated blackout integral blinds, but equally the Uni-Blinds ® Venetian and
pleated vanity blinds can also make a valuable contribution to solar shading. For example, the Metallic Silver( S156) slats used for our Venetian integral blinds have a relatively high solar reflection level of 65 %.
Combining integral blinds with solar control glass provides property owners with the maximum benefit. As every integral blind unit is made to order, we offer several types of glass to construct the IGU,
including COOL-LITE SKN 176 II from Saint-Gobain. This features a microscopically thin coating that is highly effective at reflecting excessive heat from sunlight, without compromising the thermal performance of the IGU during cooler times of the year, which is why it is used in commercial buildings as well as domestic properties around the world.
