A recent installation carried out by a Glazerite installer has been welcomed by the homeowners , who have a much quieter , warmer , and more secure home as a result .
Banbury-based Professor Windows was approached by a couple looking for windows that were a close match to how their double-fronted stone house looked in photographs taken in the early 1900s .
The Victorian end-ofterrace is situated in an Oxfordshire village and is undergoing a major renovation by the homeowners who are restoring many original features . The uPVC windows put in by a previous owner to replace the original wooden frames were ill fitting , leading to a draughty , noisy home .
|
Professor Windows ’ owner , Ricky Romera , explains : “ The existing uPVC windows had been in a long time and the film used as a privacy screen in the lower half of the frames had bonded itself to the glass . The homeowners were looking to reduce the noise level from the busy road and make the home more secure , and while sound-proofing was important , the detailing and aesthetics were too .”
Working from photographs of how the home had looked when it was first built as a single storey cottage and later extended into a two-storey home with bay windows around 1906 , Ricky adds : “ We wanted to blend the new windows in with the old stone , restoring the bay windows to their 1900s

glory using the very latest in materials .”
Over a two-week period , Ricky ’ s team installed 12 VEKA M70 bevelled bead windows using acoustic glass . An aesthetically pleasing and functional frame , the M70 offers high quality manufacture and fabrication coupled with reassuring security features and thermally efficient benefits .
Ricky adds : “ Working with stone is a much more intricate install than brick . As the homeowners are stripping the home back to include many of its original features , we used the install as an opportunity to expose the stone around the interior of the windows , which had been previously covered with uPVC . The result is stunning and much more in keeping
|
with the original style of the house .”
Ricky , who has worked with leading trade fabricator Glazerite for 20 years , has built up the reputation of Professor Windows locally thanks to the finish of their installs , and access
|
to a comprehensive range of products . Professor Windows has also tapped into the marketing support on offer from Glazerite , who have recently built the company a branded website to support the end customer journey . |
Giovanni Sangiovanni , Glazerite ’ s Area Sales Manager , South West adds : “ Our product range really helps our installers find their niche in their local market . With a heritage install you automatically think flush sash , but this install demonstrates the flexibility of M70 , and how the very latest in uPVC can blend seamlessly into older properties too .”

The sensitive importance of Hindley Cemetery Lodge meant the new windows needed to complement the existing historic building design . Furthermore , the homeowner was keen to preserve the original building architecture and the windows needed to fit into the double-arched stone façade of the building .
Following a detailed feasibility study undertaken by A & D Joinery Ltd , the decision was made to upgrade the ageing timber windows , replacing them with architecturally sensitive double-glazed versions . Profile 22 ’ s award-winning
|
Optima windows with arched top design were quickly identified as the window that would deliver the solution required . In this case , the windows were manufactured in black external and white internal foiling to replicate the heritage aesthetics and enhance the building ’ s appearance . |
Attention to detail and exacting standards were evident at every level . Dave Smith , Director of A & D Joinery , said : “ Due to the building ’ s historic build , the job was complex as we needed to re-line the windows inside the aperture with timber batons to ensure the character of the property could |
be maintained . We also fitted the windows with low-e argon filled double glazed units to improve energy ratings and soundproofing .”
The new Optima arched top windows have transformed the building capturing many of the key features of traditional design and delivering all the benefits that a modern replacement window should offer .
Design and installation of the 43 windows was completed within the scheduled four-week timeframe , with works meticulously planned to minimise disruption for the homeowner . Dave said : “ We pride ourselves on delivering our projects to exacting customer briefs on time and on budget . And Hindley Cemetery Lodge was no exception .
