The school recently relocated to a new campus in the Heath Town area of Wolverhampton, catering for 1,300 pupils and 140 teaching and support staff. This is a new three-storey development complete with sports hall and outdoor sports facilities, all ready for the new term in September and beyond. Keith Clare-Brown, director of Tate Solutions, said:“ School security is probably one of the most sensitive issues facing today’ s head |
teachers and trustees. Problems can happen very quickly due to a wide range of incidents including strangers coming into the school, violent actions by children, parents or staff, burglary, theft and arson to name but a few.“ With this in mind, pupils need to know they have a safe place in which to be educated and that staff are in a safe place in which to work. Delivering on that is a given but it is not always easy to achieve.” Keith added:“ Further problems arise from the fact that while everyone wants |
their school to be safe, no-one wants it to end up looking look like a prison with high walls and fences. While all of this may make a building secure, it is not user friendly. Our aim was to achieve a sensible balance, implementing sufficient levels of security to cope with perceived threats while providing a pleasant environment in which to learn and work.” To complement their newly constructed school, Heath Park called on Tate Solutions to provide the very latest security system that ensured strictly |
controlled access into the building, whilst allowing free movement within the facility. The system selected to deliver these objectives was SALTO’ s high specification XS4 proximity wireless based solution, which incorporates the very latest technology that provides a safe, secure and almost totally keyless environment for the benefit of both staff and pupils. The XS4 solution is a state-of-the-art electronic lock system that programmes contactless smartcards to allow access to specific classrooms or other |
areas for selected time periods only, with the doors auto locking at pre-specified |
times. If security is breached due to the loss or theft of a card, it can be instantly deleted from the system without the need or cost of changing any locks – saving the school time and money.

‘ Alumina by Liniar’ has been designed and developed by the same team of experts as the Liniar window system. It was created in response to customer feedback, as some Liniar PVCu fabricators wished to offer customers an aluminium alternative for larger apertures and commercial projects. The technical experts at Liniar have steered clear of the‘ hybrid’ type of door system- mainly as it can be a nightmare to fabricate and requires specialist machinery. Hybrid systems are also difficult to recycle at the end of their useful |
life. And while PVCu systems have obvious thermal benefits and aluminium systems have strength and size, Liniar says it can be difficult to explain the benefits of a hybrid system to consumers. Alumina by Liniar is made with standard machinery and is able to span 1.2 metres wide per sash and 2.5 metres high- ideal for heavy duty use. It has an optional‘ warm touch’ foiled exterior unlike some aluminium doors which can often feel cold. Alumina by Liniar can be offered in just about any powder-coated colour but what makes it different is that customers can also choose a wood grain or flat foiled finish. This means if customers have Liniar PVCu windows, they can choose a perfectly matching aluminium bi-fold door – with the foil adding a‘ warm touch’ finish. Liniar says Alumina is the only fully sculptured( curved) aluminium bi-fold door on the market, and is also renowned for its energy efficiency. |
It has been designed from scratch with a combined lock and thermal insert. This innovative lock unites the ultimate specification of security with a high strength engineering polymer lock body – so the lock itself acts as a thermal break, boosting the door’ s thermal performance compared to a traditional aluminium door. With 28mm double glazed and 36mm or 40mm triple glazed options available, Alumina offers‘ true’ U-values as low as 1.0W / m ² k, thanks to the thermal lock and 40mm triple glazed unit. |
Homeowners are also assured of the highest security with a suite of hardware following the same principles as the Liniar ModLok™ bi-fold system. This includes multiple bi-directional locking points, shoot bolts that secure firmly into the track, built-in anti-lift features and anti-bump cylinders. All Alumina bi-folding doors are available with three threshold options. The rebated aluminium frame runs seamlessly around to form a weathertight threshold, and the doors are supplied with this as standard. Liniar’ s optional aluminium |
low threshold requires no trench excavation to install, and is just 23.5mm at its highest point. The bi-folds move smoothly along a sleek stainless steel track and are‘ bottom rolling’, not top-hung – meaning no extra stresses are placed on the building’ s lintel. Folding keys, ergonomic handles, hidden fixings for hinges and discreet magnets complete Alumina’ s attention to detail.
