But mesothelioma deaths rise
Growth continues for the
Clearview Group Ltd, specialist
publishers of business-to-business
titles including Clearview, ProInstaller, The Locksmith journal
and The Farmers Mart.
Following the move to
larger, purpose-built new
offices earlier this year,
the group has boosted
the sales team with the
appointments of telesales staff. Sian Wilson,
Suzanne Whyke, Kelly
Boydell and Jadie Horne
who work on a variety of
products across Clearview’s portfolio of both
print and online national
and regional products.
Accounts Director Ryan
Exley is now Director
of both Accounts and
Administration.
The editorial team, headed up by Group Editor, Pat
Gwynnette, is also being
strengthened with the return
from maternity leave of
Becky Taylor as Editor of
Clearview and Pro-Installer,
and the welcome addition
of Stephanie Tague of Wild
Cat Marketing as Associate
Editor, also on Clearview
and Pro-Installer. Further
editorial staff will be joining
in coming months and the
group has already recruited more specialist editorial
contributors across all the
magazines.
The group plans to launch
or acquire further B2B
titles and with this in mind,
further sales recruitment is
planned for this calendar
year.
It is also moving into the
exhibitions arena in 2016
with its first event aimed
at the locksmith and auto
locksmith industry, Lockex,
which will take place in September 2016.
“We are delighted with progress since our acquisition
of the company, which took
place during the recession
when it was difficult to
predict how business would
respond,” said Director Steve
Sidebottom.
“In the past year, however,
we have made significant
progress on all our titles and
have focussed on building
up our B2B portfolio which
is our core strength. We have
also expanded into the exhibition arena – an exciting
development for us and one
which we believe will be
well-received.”
The Clearview team has
a strong presence at trade
shows across all the industries they represent, including The FIT Show at Telford,
a major event which attracted interest from the UK and
beyond. Sales & Marketing
Manager, Diana Durmaz, recently returned from Florida,
where she attended the JustCars auto locksmith event in
Orlando.

The number of workers
killed in Britain last year
has fallen to the lowest
annual rate on record.
Provisional data released
by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in July reveals
that 133 workers were fatally
injured between April 2013
and March 2014, compared
with 150 in the previous
year. The overall rate of fatal
injury has dropped to 0.44
per 100,000 workers, compared to 0.51 in 2012/13.
Judith Hackitt, HSE Chair,
said:
“The release of the annual
statistics always leads to
mixed emotions. Sadness
for the loss of 133 lives, and
sympathy for their families,
friends and workmates, but
also a sense of encouragement that we continue to
make progress in reducing
the toll of suffering.
“Whilst these are only provisional figures, they confirm
Britain’s performance in
health and safety as world
class. For the last eight years
we have consistently recorded one of the lowest rates
of fatal injuries to workers
among the leading industrial
nations in Europe.”
HSE also y released the
latest number of deaths
from mesothelioma, a cancer caused by exposure to
asbestos. These show that
2,535 people died in 2012,
which is an increased from
2,291 in 2011.
Judith Hackitt said:
“The high numbers of
deaths relating to mesothelioma are a reminder of
historically poor standards of
workplace health and safety,
which decades later are
causing thousands of painful,
untimely deaths each year.
While we now recognise
and are better positioned to
manage such health risks,
these statistics are a stark reminder of the importance of
keeping health standards in
the workplace on a par with
those we apply to safety.”
HSE is due to launch an asbestos campaign in Autumn
2014 that will aim to help
at-risk tradespeople work
more safely with asbestos
to protect themselves from
harm.
Further data will be
released in October on the
numbers of serious injuries
and estimates of the numbers of premature deaths
caused by harmful exposures
in the workplace.
GGF: FIT – An Event The
Industry Can Be Proud Of
The GGF Group says it was pleased with the
success of the FIT Show last month.
Nigel Rees, Group Chief Executive commented, “As well as the
GGF Group’s own strong profile
at the show, I was delighted
to see so many GGF Members
exhibiting their products and
services to great effect and
they too were rewarded with
thousands of visitors attending
the show.”
Throughout the show, the GGF and
its group of companies including
FENSA, GGFi, GGF Training and BFRC
(British Fenestration Ratings Council),
provided information for visitors, ran
quizzes and held prize draws/competitions. GGF Members also benefited
from the exclusive GGF Member’s Café
where refreshments were enjoyed,
during much networking.
Nigel continued, “From the GGF
Group’s perspective, it was good to
impart our knowledge at the Seminars and in particular, to provide an
outline of the issues around consumer
rights. It was also very pleasing to see
the success of the FENSA sponsored
Masterfitter competition and congratulations to the winners YES Glazing
Solutions and thanks to all those companies who took part.”
The GGF’s prize draw at THE Show
was also well received with many
companies entering to win a “GGF Experience” prize. The winners were:
• Richard Green of Glassolutions, who
won a trip for four to the “View at
the Shard”.
• Lawrence Muirhead of Clearview
PVCu, who won a Riverboat Dining
Cruise for two.
• Mark Pearce of KJM Group Ltd, who
won an experience package for a
Grand Afternoon Tea for two.
The GGF congratulates all the winners and thanks all the individuals
who visited the GGF stands and took
part!
Nigel added, “Following this year’s
success and with the next FIT Show
scheduled for April 2016, the GGF will
be soon be in discussions with the
organisers. We’ll be looking for areas
where we can contribute to help make
The FIT Show 2016 as good, if not
better than its first two years. Thanks
to all who have made this exhibition
something our industry can be very
proud of and long may the high standards continue.”
