Don’t Take the
Risk with Safety
With the continuous plight
of the Health and Safety
Executive (HSE) to increase
the awareness of risks associated with falling, hardware distributor Sash Jack
Limited’s managing director,
Chris Law, explains how
providing the right type of
restrictor for higher ground
level windows and doors is a
crucial necessity, particularly on buildings which house
the vulnerable.
“The Locit cable restrictor was
originally designed to protect
vulnerable individuals such as the
elderly and small children, against
any risks for falling out of upstairs
windows or doors.
“The purpose of the Locit cable
restrictor is to limit a window or
door from being opened to their
full extent. The cable units can be
fitted discreetly within minutes
with no special tools or skills and
is then operated by locking off the
cable with a key. The product can
be easily applied both at point of
manufacturer or retrofitted.
“Due to its flexibility of application, the Locit cable restrictor
can be fitted to PVCu, timber and
aluminium windows and offers a
tamper-proof solution to homes
and public buildings in need of
restricting higher level openers.
“There are many reports here
in the UK, the USA and Europe
which exist to remind homeowners and management services
for public buildings of the risks
of leaving windows and doors
unlocked or open, in particularly
where the young or elderly are
around.
‘These reports recommend protecting the
vulnerable from the risk of falling and
advise on the precautions one should
take, i.e. fitting a restrictive devise to the
window to prevent a tragedy occurring’
“These reports recommend protecting the vulnerable from the
risk of falling and advise on the
precautions one should take, i.e.
fitting a restrictive devise to the
window to prevent a tragedy occurring,” Chris adds, “Preventing
such tragedy could be the difference between choosing to ignore
or embrace the warnings.”
The Locit cable restrictor is now
fitted worldwide in homes and
public buildings including; hotels,
care homes, schools and colleges,
and comes in a variety of coloured finishes; black, brown, white
and stainless steel and complies
with BS6375 Part 2:2009.
Chris continues: “Another product which supports Sash Jack’s
portfolio of safety product range
is the company’s 335mm and
500mm opening door restrictors.
Suitable for inward or outward
applications, the restrictor can be
fitted into the full depth of the
PVCu eurogroove at the top or
bottom of the door and its hold-
open functi on prevents the sash
from blowing closed and has up
to a 140 degree opening.
“The door restrictor is manufactured using 300 series stainless steel rivets to give it greater
strength and quality. Friction on
the restrictor can be seamlessly
adjusted using the Pozi-Drive
screw located on the friction
pad.
“All mouldings are manufactured from Nylon 66 for less wear
and greater durability and an
anchor plate from die-cast zinc is
used for easy detachment of the
opening arm.” Chris adds.
