Pristine Panorama Second Term 2019 | Page 57

Pristine took up the incredible opportunity to take the POST 16 students on a tour to a place that was filled with empathy, compassion and a highly spirited entourage – The Sharjah Old age Home. It was an eye-opening experience as a whole. The home was a shelter to old men and women coming from various ethnic groups and nationalities. The old people were very well taken care of at the premises with an essential facility like regular physiotherapy, gym, activity room and everyday garden strolls. Additionally, the students spent some thought-provoking moments, from listening to how they ended up in the home, to escaping war stories, their health issues and injuries, to playing ball games with them. All in all, it was a reflective trip which has broadened our horizons on how this part of society is looked after and what social responsibility do we have in contributing to it. Being more empathetic towards elders and spending time with them are a few ways to be a smarter twenty first century individual.
