Pristine Panorama Second Term 2019 | Page 30

Pristinians in grade 7 visited the Sharjah Museum of Islamic civilization this month.

There they witnessed the over 5000 artefacts that embodied the Islamic heritage of the Emiratis. Previously a souq, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic civilisation is divided into different galleries which showcased even some Pre-Islamic artefacts.

Students were gathered and visited first the Al-Haytham gallery of Science and Technology, where they witnessed the greatest contributions and inventions of the Muslim Arabs. They learned how the Muslim Arabs significantly contributed in making measurements for time, and how early Arabs used their star charting skills to help them in navigation. Students even learn to make their own sand timers in their workshop.

After the gallery of Science and Technology, students went to the upper level to learn and see different artefacts both from the Pre-Islamic and Islamic civilisation. Artefacts ranging from ewers to weapons for war and tapestries and tiles coming from neighbouring civilisations like Persia (Iran) and Egypt.

The final stop for the museum visit was the dome located on the third floor where its ceiling is artistically decorated with different zodiac signs representing the charted stars that guided the early Arabs in their sea navigation.
