Pay off your credit card debt , either by paying more than the minimum or by not putting anything on a credit card that you cannot pay off right away .
If your credit card debt is high , the thing to do is obtain a loan to pay it off , then cut your cards up until you have paid off your loan .
If you have loans on vehicles or expensive toys , try to pay an additional amount on the principal each time you make a payment , even if it is only $ 10 . You ’ re decreasing debt at an accelerated rate and will pay the loan off faster .
Set a budget for food , clothes , and entertainment . Don ’ t overspend on items that aren ’ t necessities . Set the budget at an attainable goal . In other words , don ’ t buy the rib-eye steak unless it ’ s on sale , and within the budget !
Save for emergencies . Set a little aside every paycheck until this fund has a decent balance to handle an emergency .
If you don ’ t have credit card debt and can pay off the balance every month , find a credit card with benefits . Then use the credit card to pay for groceries , cell phone , gas , etc . A Sam ’ s Club credit card is great because you can use it for everything , then use the earnings to pay for groceries . The key is to pay off the balance every month . ü

Prepare meals in advance , such as freezer meals , so all you need to do is pull the food out the day before and either slow cook it or bake it in the oven the next day . By doing this , you ’ ll save money and decrease the number of restaurant meals .
Vacation savings begin when you stop spending your change . Put it in a jar and you ’ ll be surprised how quickly it adds up . If you have your finances in order , you can set up a bank account for vacations . Decide on an amount from your paycheck and have it automatically deposited into this account . If you don ’ t see it , you won ’ t miss it .
ü If your employer will do any 401 ( K ) matching , and your finances are in order , take full advantage of the amount being matched and put it away for retirement . For example , if your company will match 3 % and you can afford the 3 %, do it . Think of it as a 3 % raise , delayed until retirement .
ü If , on the other hand , you ’ re in financial trouble , find a way to earn more money . Find a gig that you can do for a few hours after your main job . Start paying your debt down by putting all the money from your side gig on your bills . When you see your debt decreasing , the stress from the debt starts decreasing .
Remember : budget for the celebration of milestones along the path to financial stability .
