The essence of responding vs . reacting is a mind-set .

What ’ s the difference ?
Reactions are driven by your subconscious mind . They are involuntary , spontaneous , reflexive , and instinctual . There is no filtering , you ’ re running on autopilot . Reactions engage the body before the brain .
Consider these facts :
• Modern science estimates that 95 % of our brain ’ s activity is unconscious , meaning that most of the decisions we make , the actions we take , and our emotions and behaviors depend on the brain activity that lies beyond our conscious awareness . That means that 95 % or more of our lives are spent operating from subconscious programming .
• The human mind has over 60,000 thoughts a day , and 98 % of them are identical to yesterday ’ s thoughts . Eighty percent of your subconscious thoughts are already negative .
• From these scientific statistics , we can easily conclude that we may not always be operating and reacting in the ways we want to .
• Where does our subliminal programming come from ? Our entire subconscious programming is built from what we absorb environmentally from birth to age six . We store and memorize behaviors , emotional reactions , beliefs , and perceptions , and they continue to run like a background program in our daily lives .
