Bucking Bulls
and Broncs
at Hay’s First Night Rodeo
The Hay Rodeo Club advertised thrills and spills, and kept
that promise on 8th February, when the Club staged its
first night rodeo in its 62 year history.
The Jack McCormack Arena at the Hay Showground, the
scene for the spectacular event held under lights, was
venue to one of the largest crowds ever seen at the Hay
rodeo.
A beautiful sunset as Hay Rodeo Club prepared to switch
on the lights for the first Hay Night Rodeo.
First time riders competed with seasoned rodeo cowboys
but big winners on the night were the animals, with many
riders being hard pressed to last the distance. Eight
seconds is a long time to sit on a couple of hundred
pounds of bucking bronco or bull. Eight seconds is the
amount of time a rider must stay on the animal to record a
registered time.
Comments from both spectators and riders were very
favourable toward the event, and all are looking forward to
the Hay Rodeo Club’s next rodeo.
Heat caused a problem with the amplifier for the public
address system but this glitch, in an otherwise perfect
evening, was soon fixed by Graham Matthews, who lent
his own amplifier to the Club.
Cowboys spotted at Sandy Point, relaxing before the main
event of the evening.
