Hay Family Fishing Club at Soap Works The Hay Family Fishing Competition held another successful fishing day on Sunday 23rd February with 34 anglers coming along to Soapworks Bend, fishing off the bank and in boats. Boy’s Longest Cod was Joe Petts with a 49cm, and Boy’s Longest Carp was Jack Griffiths with a 56cm fish which nearly pulled him out of the boat. Six Murray Cod, one Golden Perch, fourteen Carp and one silver bream were caught in the allocated time. Cod were caught in each category with Joe Petts catching a 49cm Cod, Crystal Griffiths Cod was 46cm, Jess O’Keeffe caught a 47cm cod, Jane Symons a 40cm, Panda Anderson a 58cm and Troy Grififths a 43cm. Austen Harwood caught the broken tip from a fishing rod, another unusual catch for the day. Crystal Griffiths pulled in a 46cm cod and a 65cm carp to win the Girl’s Longest Cod and Longest Carp. Jess O’Keefe won the Ladies Longest Cod and Jane Symons the Longest Carp with a 72cm monster. There were a couple of unusual catches, and a lot of cockies perches (sticks and branches). Dylan Wilson Jeffrey ‘Panda ’Anderson was the overall winner on the day with the Longest Cod and only Golden Perch caught on the day, his total length of fish was 1 meter. Panda shared his $100 prize with a junior, and the winner was determined with a draw from the fishing sheets, and was won by Lucky Lily Tassell. The next competition will be at the end of March, and a flyer will be sent out to members, and new members are always welcome. The raffle caused the biggest excitement, being won by a very excitable Jaidyn Wilson, his enthusiasm was infectious and everyone cheered for the happy little angler, his prize was a fishing rod, which probably went to bed with him that night.
