in India
Generous support from the Hay community has been
joyfully received by children in India. Beth Coffey, Hay
Hospital Nurse Preemol and husband Paul, have
recently returned from a trip to India with the news that
donations of clothing, school supplies, personal care
products and food, donated locally, was distributed to
81 children in two orphanages and six families. Donated
cash will be monitored and used for medical expenses.
five years ago. They live in a one room dwelling with
tarpaulin walls and a tamped earth floor. Two girls
aged fourteen and ten, and their brother, six, live in
the spotlessly clean dwelling and attend school.
While on her trip, Beth met one family who are in dire
need of help and Beth has been raising money for
bricks for them. A grandmother is bringing up her three
beautiful grandchildren, after their mother died of cancer
The family is so poor, that when the fourteen year old
girl was ready to sit her high school entrance exam,
neighbours pitched in to help raise the 90 cent fee.
The girl excelled in the exam and has achieved high
marks in her two years at high school.
But grave fears are held for the girls safety in the
unsecure dwelling and Beth has helped raise $2,000
to buy concrete bricks to secure the abode. Paul’s
cousins will brick up the home and secure the
