Dale Curtis has commenced a
Certificate III in Meat Processing
with Foodworks Supermarket, Hay.
Dale is attending Hay War Memorial
High School and is able to complete
part of an apprenticeship as well as
being paid. Dales training is
delivered flexibly by William Angliss
Institute of TAFE who attend
Foodworks every 6 weeks.

How does a school based
Apprenticeship Work?
Any student aged 15 and over can undertake an
Australian Schoolbased Apprenticeship (ASbA).
The Employer/Host Employer offers a minimum of 8
hours work per week.
The Employer/Host Employer provides on-the-job
training for the Apprentice/Trainee.
An ASbA is the same as a full time Apprenticeship/
Traineeship only the Apprentice works for only
8hours per week whilst also
attending school full time.
Maddison O’Brien also works at
Foodworks and is undertaking a Certificate
III in Retail, where Murray Mallee Training
Company delivers her training flexibly to the
workplace every 4-6 weeks.

Australian Apprentice

The Apprentice/Trainee also
attends or undertakes trade school at the same level.
ASbA’s generally take 18-24 months to complete, but
with the opportunity to work extra hours after school,
on weekends and during school holidays you may
become qualified even sooner. A Certificate III level
qualification may require further study and work with
your employer, after you complete Year 12. A
Certificate III level trade qualification takes three to
your four years full time to complete.
