Rhonda Brain, creator of Paint the
Town Read, which has been
introduced to Hay, took five hundred
students, parents and community
members on a possum hunt, at the
Hay Memorial hall. “Discover the
reading bug,” said Rhonda, “You are
about to embark on a fun filled
concept. We want to generate
literacy.”
Rhonda was joined by the Parkes
mascot “Buggy”, the reading Bug.
Rhonda was Principal of the Parkes
public school in the 1990’s and says
reading is very important.

Poppy and friends from Holroyd
joined Rhonda and Buggy on the
search for Paddy, taking children on a
possum hunt. In song we looked
across the Hay Plains, boated across
the Murrumbidgee River, went
through a dust storm and down the
main street to the library until we
found Poppy’s cousin Paddy.
