ABC Open Project
ABC Open is about communities getting their stories ‘out there’.
With this in mind ABC Open Journalist Sonia Gee visited Hay
recently to speak with members of CASE (Community Action 4
Suicide Elimination). Sonia is working on a national project on
mental health and came to source stories for the assignment.
Radio, TV and online coverage will be given to the story of the
CASE bike ride to Canberra and Sonia will cover individual
stories on why each rider chose to take this massive endeavour.
Sonia took a series of photos of CASE members hands with
slogans written on them, which will form part of her Mental Health
Stories project. “Hay is the obvious place to start this project,”
Sonia told CASE members. Sonia went on to praise CASE’s
effort to bring suicide awareness out in the open.
Ms Gee has been to Hay previously with the photography project
‘Now and Then’, which involved local photographers and high
school students taking photos from the past and rephotographing
them at the original site. These and other projects from Hay can
be viewed at: https://open.abc.net.au
Lend a hand slogans: Bev Wilson “Fight it, Dont hide it”, Peter
Dwyer “Share”, Ken Larkin “Remember you have friends, Jan
Eames “Communication, Hay”, Ken Wilson “Talk about it” and
Sonia Gee “Exercise”
