Meet Steve Quirk In March 2013 Steve Quirk’s father (Step Dad) passed away after a courageous 3 year fight with Cancer. Steve was by his side as his dad fought stubbornly to defeat the disease that was slowly taking him away from his loved ones. It was during this time Steve decided to do something different and difficult that would contribute towards the Cancer Council's goal of one day finding a cure. Steve is walking from Wollongong NSW to Fremantle WA and back to Wollongong. He is joined by Garry Jones who supports him with a support vehicle towing a caravan. Steve Quirk Garry Jones Garry and Steve were strangers until Garry answered Steve's call for help for his epic trip across Australia. The walk is estimated to take 5-6 months, walking at least 50klms per day and covering a total distance of approx. 8,000klms. The walk began on 10 January 2014. The walk is also an attempt by Steve to be the first person to walk across Australia and back again. Steve says, “It will be quite an adventure for us both.” Averaging 50 klms a day, Steve and Garry arrived in Hay on the 21st February. Along the way Steve has suffered the “curse of new shoes”, and tar melting temperatures of over 40 degrees. A welcome stop at the Hay Caravan Park allowed Steve and Garry to get a minor repair done to the caravan interior, catch up on their washing and stock up on some essential grocery items; the rest also allowed Steve the opportunity to get his blistered feet attended to.
