Flower Show Overwhelming Success
The Hay Branch of CWA (Country Women's Association) 3rd annual Flower
Show was hailed an outstanding success. With 822 entries and many first time
exhibitors, the organisers were pleased that their hard work had paid off.
Ten days before the Show, President Gwenda Macnamara and Publicity
Officer Susan Johnston toured the streets of Hay taking photo’s of gardens.
Both women agreed that they did not envy the judges having to choose just
one out of the very many beautiful gardens around town.
The Hay Shire Council sponsored “Most Outstanding Garden” winners, Peter
and Val Lugsdin, were a bit surprised their garden won as they had been away
for 3 months. Gardens were judged on: colour, neatness, design and creativity
and were, luckily, judged before the hot winds came and damaged many plants
and flowers.
‘Champion Rose of Hay’, sponsored by the Hay Services Club, was won by
Ann Hurst with a beautiful ‘Barren de Rothchild’.
Marg Beckwith, ‘Most Sucessful Exhibitor’, wasn’t going
to enter until a friend encouraged her. Pictured with
