Joint Health & Safety Regulatory Changes

WorkSafeBC has issued a discussion paper on the upcoming proposed changes to the regulations on Joint Health & Safety Committees . Amongst the proposed changes :
- Require an evaluation tool to measure the effectiveness of the joint health and safety committee .
- Establish mandatory minimum training and education for joint health and safety committee members .

Equipment & Material Handling Injury Reduction Initiative

We have a unique project in the works this summer which we ’ re keen to share with you . In collaboration with UBC , we ’ ve welcomed student Jasmine Kalsi on board to carry out research on ways to reduce injuries caused by the labour intensive movement of equipment , material and personnel in the motion picture , television and live event production industries .

Emergency Preparedness Week

A big thank you to all of our partners in helping to make Actsafe ’ s Emergency Preparedness Fair a success !
- Clarify the meaning of “ participation ” by providing additional examples of what participation by worker and employer representatives in an employer incident investigation includes .
Actsafe will be taking a little time to evaluate these changes and determine what comments , if any , we will make within our mandate as your health and safety association .

We ’ ve Moved !

By participating in the study , workers will be contributing to a data set which will allow for the identification of work-related factors which may contribute to injuries in the workplace .
The outcome of the initiative will be measured by its impact on the long-term reduction of injuries related to equipment and material handling , which will ultimately help improve the productivity of the industry , as well as reduce work-related injury cost .
We hope you ’ ll welcome Jasmine when you see her out and about !
The events at Vancouver Film Studios , North Shore Studios and The Bridge Studios were well attended , with every one of those who visited leaving with vital information on what you need to survive a natural disaster , what to do in a power outage and samples of what should be in an emergency kit .
Big congratulations to the winners of our prizes throughout the event !
- Colton Davidson - Mehi Shishvan - Reba Rowe
All won an Actsafe First-Aid kit and the grande prize winner of an Actsafe First-Aid course plus an Emergency Kit was Nancy Jones !
We ’ re now up and running in our new premises , come and say hi !
