John and Emily Hopkins have always dreamed of a home with a yard for their
family. After hearing of the CASH Program, they were eager to sign up. Soon after
reaching their savings goal, they began shopping for a home. At the very same
time, Interfaith Housing Services was putting the finishing touches on a threebedroom home which was donated to IHS and rehabbed for first-time
home buyers. John and Emily loved the house at first sight. Shortly
after, they became homeowners. The couple realized the American
dream and are living in their own home complete with a yard where the
children love to play.
Interfaith Housing Recognized with Award
Interfaith Housing Services of Hutchinson has been named "Outstanding Housing Advocate" by Kansas Housing Resource Corporation
for the organization's accomplishments in expanding an important economic development tool called the Creating Assets Savings & Hope
(CASH) Program.
The CASH Program helps low-income families save money for education, career training, starting a business or buying a home. For every
dollar a person saves, Interfaith Housing Services will match with two more dollars.
Accepting the Ad Astra Award at the 2012 Kansas Housing Conference in Manhattan, CEO John Scott said "Many people helped make
this legislation change possible including our local representatives, especially Terry Bruce who was essential in the process of helping us
help more families."
In 2011, IHS worked with state legislators to improve the effectiveness of the tax credits available to donors for contributions to the
program. This change allowed IHS to ^[
