FIND ADVENTURE
This summer I was given the opportunity to work as
the Seniors Coordinator for the Town of Riverview
– an experience I’ll never forget. It’s been my job to
develop a variety of activities throughout the summer,
and boy did we have fun! Anyone 60 years of age
and older was able to join, even if they did not live
in Riverview. It was an honour to meet and socialize
with each of the 100+ participants.
Every Monday, we ventured around the newly
developed Mill Creek Nature Park. Some of our
activities included a picnic, bird watching, gardening
talks, finding edible plants and surviving in the
woods, exercising, painting the lake, geocaching, and
star gazing. This park is a great new spot to go for a
walk and explore. Be sure to check out the lookout
at the lake; it’s a view you won’t want to miss. The
main entrance is located off Runneymeade Road.
On Tuesdays, technology help was offered for all
kinds of different devices: cameras, cell phones,
GPS, lap-tops, computers, emails, iPads, iPhones,
i-anything! This is a free program that is offered
year-round by appointment.
On select Wednesdays and Fridays, we spread
random acts of kindness by volunteering at a
different organization each week in honour of
#BeccaToldMeTo. It was an amazing experience
learning about different organizations around Greater
Moncton and sharing happiness with those in need.
On Thursdays, we had the Silver Café. As a
group we tried bowling, pickle ball, line dancing,
cake decorating, blueberry picking, a trip to Fort
Beauséjour and an end of summer potluck to
reminisce.
We also had four mystery trips over the summer.
It could be anywhere in the Maritimes and each
trip combined adventure with learning and trying
new things!
Although my time with the Town has come to an
end with new season, Mystery Trips, Tech Tuesdays
and recreation programs for people ages 60-plus are
