16 {protectionism and its effect on global warming} POR: MADELINE HARTAI - WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM The first day in the World Economic Forum committee gave way to a promising start, which hopefully foreshadows a productive three days here at GLC MUN X. All of the opening speeches were well presented, well prepared, and it could be noticed that the delegates had taken the time to rehearse carefully. Among the most notable speeches were those of the representative of Google, the representative of BP Bod Radley, the Minister of Agriculture of North Korea, and Mr. Ajay Vir Tahkar. With the speeches done with, a motion for a moderated caucus was put into order in relation to Protectionism, in which the delegates managed to express some fairly good points in a heated debate. The most controversial delegates were the representative of North Korea and the Minister of Economy of Argentina, both of whom provided relatively radical viewpoints in regard to their defense of the usage of Protectionism. The Minister of Economy of Argentina seemed to be unafraid to critique her fellow delegates in order to prove her point, and corrected the delegation of Royal Dutch Shell for the absence of the Falkland Islands in his freehand geographic map he drew to disprove her ideas. She also ruthlessly attacked the viewpoints of other delegates such as the representative of Microsoft and the representative of Google, both of whom were against the application of Protectionism. In addition, the representative of Google, Mr. Bob Radley and Mr. Ajay Vir Tahkar impressed the commission with their strong English-speaking skills, while the representative of MONSANTO used didactic whiteboard graphs to support his theory.
