Evita Coming To Albuquerque ’ s Musical Theatre Southwest

The story of Eva Peron ’ s rise from the slums of Argentina to the First Lady of Argentina is the premise behind one of the most popular musicals of all time , Evita .
Musical Theatre Southwest ( MTS ), a New Mexico community theater company , will present Evita , Fridays , Saturdays and Sundays from April 7 – 30 . Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p . m . and Sunday ’ s matinee is 2 p . m . at the MTS Center for Theatre . Tickets are $ 22 for adults and $ 20 for students , seniors . Adored by her people as a champion for the poor , yet reviled by the aristocracy as “ trash ,” Peron became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed , outsized ambition , and fragile
health made her one of the most tragic figures , as well . Evita features some of theater ’ s most beautiful songs , including “ Don ’ t Cry for Me , Argentina ,” “ Another Suitcase in Another Hall ,” and , “ High Flying , Adored .”
Told through a compelling score that fuses haunting chorales with exuberant Latin , pop and jazz influences , Evita creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself , said the show ’ s Art Director Art Tedesco .
“ Evita is a big show with big personalities and a lush , beautiful score ,” Tedesco said . “ I ’ m thrilled to be able to stage this in Musical Theatre Southwest ’ s intimate black box theatre where the audience can be so close . They will feel transported to the middle of the streets of Argentina to witness history .”
MTS will donate 5 percent of profits from the run of each show to a community non-profit .
