Both performances will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Rd NE. Brahms Requiem is meant to be of comfort to the living, rather than a dirge for the dead. As he composed it, foremost in his mind was the death of his beloved mother, as well as his friend and mentor, Robert Schumann. This will be a performance of the so-called“ London version,” arranged for two pianos and timpani by the composer himself and first performed in London in 1871. Pianists are Mary Ann Ybarra and Maribeth Gunning. Alexis Corbin is performing on timpani. Vocal soloists are Rebecca Brunette and Alfredo Beltran. Coro Lux, based in Albuquerque, NM, has achieved international acclaim as a world-class chorus, having performed most recently at Carnegie Hall.
